C Section And Freaking Out Lol

Well I am due today and had my app't. My doc is going on vacation Wed. so they want me induced before then. The baby will not engage and is sitting up extremely high on me. The doc is giving me until Monday and if baby hasn't dropped, which is unlikely, he will do a c-section Tuesday morning. Boy I was not expecting this! lol I've watched a few of these on that baby channel. On one hand I'm happy to not go through labor pains (on the other hand I'm slightly sad ina stupid way for missing it, even though I've been scared to death...but this is my one and only pregnancy). The thought of being awake while someone is cutting into me is FREAKY! I would just love some advice and thoughts from anyone who has gone through a c-section. Just how bad is the pain after?

is there not another doctor that can deliver you? Just bc he is going on vacation doesn't mean that you should have a c section. Usually they will let a woman go past their due date-bc that is just estimated anyways. Well, my c section was an emergency but it wasn't bad, I felt a lot of pulling and tugging-but the rest of me was dead weight. I also puked on the table-they strap your arms down-so someone has to suction out your mouth if that happens. I had the shivers real bad afterwards-I could only hold my son for a few minutes before I had to give him to my dh. I pa__sed out from the meds after that. They make you get up and that was the hardest part bc I felt as though my insides were going to spill right out my belly. Be sure to have a pillow to press up against you for sneezing, coughing, and etc. The next few days I was high as a kite on pain meds-and I still had pain, but I am having another in June-so I guess to me it is well worth it if that is the way that you'll have to go. Good luck to you!!

Oh yes, I can wait if I choose to. But I really like this doctor and don't see that tehre will be any point in waiting. The babys bottom is about 10 inches above my bellyb___ton so that gives you an idea of just how high up he is. He is very big and they don't expect he is going to drop anytime soon otherwise he would definately suggest me waiting. I don;t have any contractions or cramping at all either and have been stuck at 1 cm for weeks. There are just no indications baby is coming and I like the doc so I might as well do this when he is here since I am comfortable with him. It's just scary!

yeah-I had a big boy too-10 pounds-except his head was stuck in the birth ca___la and the doc said that that was what was keeping me from dialating further, among other things. My doc has been on maternity leave and I have had to see another doc in the office, I can't wait till she gets back-I want her to be the one to do the section-I understand about how you feel about your doc-I don't think I could trust anyone like her to do it. I was scared when she first told me that she thought I should have another c, but now I am ok with it becasue my labor sucked real bad, and at least the pain with the section went away with some meds. Good luck with your baby!!

i think that your better off to get the csection just in case... if your baby is really not ready AT ALL then you prolly dont wanna have to have an emergency c section.. ive been watching those shows too and its just so quick... i actually want a csection lol...

In my case, the pain from the c-section was brutal. It was a lot worse than my 30 hour labor. Sorry I can't say it wasn't bad, but you need to hear all the stories. If you are only having one, just deal as best you can with it and knowing it won't happen again will make each day a little better. Being awake is good in that you can hear the baby cry and see him even if only briefly, but you may have trouble breathing from the spinal and you may get sick on the table from low blood pressure. Just take the pain meds and have plenty of help at home for a week or two. When I had my second scheduled c the pain was a tiny bit better bc I didn't labor, but not much. Some people don't feel as much in their abdomens and feel pain more easily elsewhere. I apparently do feel pain alot there and less elsewhere. Go figure. Again, take the meds and let people know when you need help.

Bonnie, labor things can happen so so quickly. Some people soften, drop, and dialate fast as lightning right at the end when it looked like they were making no progress before..and it is an awful practice that Drs induce women before vacations/the weekend...but a csection, oh my! Of course if you are one who prefers this, then go right ahead, I debated whether I would elect to have one myself but decided I would rather give birth bc I dont want a scar however hidden it is, and I want to get better as fast as possible not have a huge incision for so long. Make sure its what you want, don't feel bullied by someone elses vacation...this is your moment! I hope I didnt come off as one of those people who say you should do this and you should do that...I just think you should do what YOU want outside of your Drs vacation planning, k? =) Other than that, if you do it, I think if you are real scared you should call your doc and tell him, you can have something given to you through your iv that will calm your nerves before the csec, you can ask for a local numbing before getting your epidural. My friend just had a csec and had a very easy recovery (still long) but she was put on morphine drip and couldnt feel any pain for the first few days. After that, Im sure the pain is all from moving around, which you'll have to do, yknow? But at least its in your control, if you hurt too bad, sit back and take some pain meds, you'll be distracted anyways Just if your hurting, ask for relief :) As far as all the scary puking stories, Ive had lots of surgery before and didn't get sick at all, even when my anesthesiologist gave me a ma__sive overdose of general one time and I was in and out unable to shake it off for 17 hours. Just depends on your stomach, don't let your nerves control you, I'm sure your experience will be a LOT easier than you think it will. Good luck!

Thanks everyone. My doctor sure isn't trying to force any of this on me. He has asked my thoughts and opinions on all of it, I just rpetty much agree with him. I really don't see any signs at all that baby is coming anytime soon. I don't even have BH anymore (they stopped 3 weeks ago) or cramping. I don't HVAE to do it before is vacation, that one was my choice as I don't want a different doctor at all since I trust this one so much. I had changed doctors at 28 weeks to this one and he is fantastic. To be honest, I think I'd be just as panicked if I went into labor this weekend, lol.

Well, my water broke Monday and I had him. Ended up being c-section after he wouldn't fit. Turns out my pelvic bones were too small. But the surgery was awesome and the doctors actually made it fun and had me laughing of all things. I'll post a new topic. :D
