Delivery Room And Husband

My husband was the only one in the room with me, and I really wish my mom and stepmom had been able to be there, too, because it was our first baby, but my mom and stepmom have both been there before, and so could have rea__sured us, etc. Unfortunately, we didn't have the choice. Hopefully things will be different with our next child.

I only had my hubby in there all three times. We never really talked about anyone else in there anyway - I have really quick labours, there would only have been time for someone to have been there for our first anyway.. His family was waiting outside as soon as he was born, my family came the next day (500 km away) My mother came down from the town where she lives with our second to wait for him, and when I went into labour at 2am, she stayed with our 2 year old. Our third baby was born in under an hour in my MIL's car with DH watching through the window while nurses caught her, so no one was there anyway. his baby will be born at home, but I still don't really want anyone else here besides him and the midwives. I'm not close enough to his family to want his sister and mother there - they will be taing care of our other children instead. They have never asked through the year, it's never been brought up, I think everyone just feels ok where we are! It's a good thing too though, because DH is definate he doesn't really want anyone else there so it's not an issue. But this time around, because I'm having a home birth and don't know how quick it will be, and they live in the next suburb, and my 17 year old neice is at the high school across the road with my kids at te school next to it, everyone will be getting in if I go into lour during th day. DH works an hour away, so whoever is closest will be joining me along with the midwives, everyone is aware of that this time, not because I really really want them to share in it or anything, just because I don't want to be by myself until the midwives are here! If Ifelt differently about having someone else with my besides DH I would, wether he was comfy with it or not. Believe me, during that time, my DH was fantastic, but you need to have who you want in there as well. It's your experience...make sure it's a great one.!

I'm going to be a first-time mommy, and at first I thought I might like to have my mom there with me and the soon-to-be-dh, but he had strong feelings that it should be just the two of us, a miraculous moment just for us. I know he desperately dislikes the idea of his mom being there, (and the idea of her sticking a videocamera between my legs is most unappealing to me, as well!) so I agreed that it will be our special time, just the doctors and the two of us. He later relented and said I could have my mom there if I wanted, but I want him to know that I have every confidance in his ability to coach me through labor, and I told him all I will need is him, and everyone else can come and visit us AFTER the baby arrives. I hope I don't regret it! :o)

My mother actually asked me if she was allowed in the delivery room and I told her no. I want the first people to see my baby be the people who made her... just me and hubby. I think it's going to be a very special moment that I want to be able to share with him only. Just thinking about that time almost brings me to tears of excitement. (Getting a little sentamental now, I am 37 1/2 weeks.)

i had just the dad in there with me, and although he helped i feel he could have been better, so this time i having him and my mate. it is your labour, you have to do what u want. i reckon he is scared of being pushed out, make sure he gets to cut the cord and hold the baby before your mum, its his baby aswekll and you both need to respect each others wishes but you must come first

Hi, I had my husband, my dad, my sister, and my two neices who are 12 and 13. If my husband's family were able to be there they would've been more than welcome to come in the room too. Bonnie is right do whatever you want to do.

I'm 38 weeks 2 days pregnant with my first and I'm only going to have my fiance with me. I think it will be a very special moment when our daughter is born and we will be bonding with each other as well as with our new daughter so we have decided to just make our moms wait outside and visit as soon as possible after. But I agree with the others who say to do what you want. It really should be what's best for both you and your husband, as the baby belongs to both of you, even though you're the one doing all the work! I would explain to him how you feel.
