When you start doing internal examinations and the doctor says your are dilated or effaced how close does that out you to labor. I am 36 weeks and Dilated to a 1.

It means little, only that you're a tiny step closer. It could be today or weeks from now.

i havent yet had any internal examinations and am 39.3 weeks today, how will i know if im dilated? would i feel it dilating or will it feel like contractions?

No, you won't feel dilation. Contractions cause it, but you can't really judge by them. I'm surprised your doctor hasn't checked you by now. Have you asked for one?
