Do you always lose your mucas plug, or can you be in labor w/ out having lost it?

my friend didnt loose hers and her waters broke well into labour

from what i have heard i think you can lose it during labour.
|

you may not even notice when you lose it. it is not alwasys a big bloob of mucus. yours can liquify and just seem like discharge. with my first i never lost my plug and my water didnt break. only about 15% of women have there water break before labor.
