I am 19 weeks tomorrow but I wanted to ask on here before I asked my doctor on the 16th...but has anyone had an allergic reaction to an epidural. I am allergic to almost every medicine I have tried besides tylenol and ibuprofen but since I have been pregnant I won't take any kind of medicine. I am just worried I would have an allergic reaction to the shot. But everyone thinks I will have to get it because I have frequent anxiety attacks (not just little ones, but really bad ones) so they think I won't be able to handle the contractions and everything and that I will need to get the epidural. But just curious to know if anyone knows the effects.

Also I truly don't want to get one...I would rather give birth naturally but that if your stress levels are to high the doctors insist on giving one and that is the reason for my concern

The doctor can't make you do anything...no matter what. As to allergic reactions...I have no idea. You can look it up on Webmd.com.

Best to check the what Ari posted and see what medications are IN the epidural and then match those to your allergy list. good thing to do your research now - oh and mention it to your doctor. You can look at IV pain control methods as well and see if there is anything they can give you

Ok thanks, I will look into it and see what happens.
