How quickly can labour come on? Do you know about it hours before, or can it be like one minute you're okay and not expecting things then half an hour later your experiencing the first stages? Please help. I am 41 weeks and 1 day and really fed up. I don't feel a thing....don't even feel pregnant sometimes :( Could I be in labour by the end of today or would I already know about it?

you would not know about it, it just happens, with my last one I was so fed up with being pregnant and nothing was happening I told my husband to brake my water ( he was really disgusted just thinking of it - but I wanted the baby out) I had been 5 cm dilated for 2 weeks and I just had it. So I got up of my chair and my water broke - just like that. It was more like a splash and then nothing, the idiots in the hospital said I was fine and to go home. no real contractions just leaking all over the place, so we went back and then in the car the sack just busted open completely and then it was on, one contraction after the other I fell out of the car infront of the ER and my son was born within 3 hours from that. With my first it took 16 hours and I could not see it coming either. So you could be sitting here reading this and go into labor at any time. (just sit on a towl in the car - lol)

Sometimes it gets so frustrating because like kc said... it just comes. You may have started already and you just havent taken notice...

Funny story@kc. With my first i was induced so thats one. With the other 2 I woke up with contractions that were about 5 minutes apart and i delivered about 5-3 hours after that. When it comes there is NO mistaking that pain., Im serious

Ruthie, how are you feeling this morning, any contractions? I really feel for you, I know exactly how it is. I would tell you to walk a lot, but I tried that (thats how I got to 5cm) and I had really good contractions but as soon as I sat down they went away. So you can try walking, jumping and having lots of s_x, there is a hormone in the s____n that ripens the cervix. There is a lot of things you can do - like castor oil, but I have to warn you, you get diarreha from hell, but it gets your bowls emty so the baby drops even lower which creats more pressure on the cervix and might put you into labor, but that is all it does, and honestly I spent hours in the bathroom and nothing happened (and I drank a lot of that stuff - YAK) But the day my water broke in the evening, I had taken it in the morning - just an fyi.
