I am 39 wks 3 days pregnant and I have been dialated 2cm and 50% effaced for 2 weeks now. I go back to my doctor on Thursday and she said if I got to 40 weeks she would induce me. I really don't want to be induced, is there anything I can do to start contractions or anything else that will help? I have done what she told me, walking and having s_x but nothing seems to be happening!!

I am 41 weeks 1 day and tomorrow they give me a date for induction. They say they wont let me go over the weekend :( I have tried s_x, walking, bouncing on my gym ball, dancing etc. Now I am drinking a pitcher of raspberry leaf tea in the hope that it will get things going a bit. I am not going to take castor oil though. I am scared out of my wits about being medically induced. Don't like the thought of all those synthetic hormones in my blood stream....HELP!

I am 40 weeks and 2 days ... I am at the hospital tomorrow to arrange the induction!!! I have tried EVERYTHING!!!! Nothing works. I should have learnt my lesson with my last baby, the more you try, the more desperate you become.
I have tried, pineapple, walking, s_x, membrane sweeping, raspberry leaf tea, cohosh (gave me high blood pressure), hot curry, a bumpy ride and even castor oil :(
Its all my doc's fault for telling me there is no way I would go full term!!!!!!!!!

I don't believe they can force you to induce. If you and baby are doing well, ask them to give you a little more time. I will not let them induce me unless I go over 42 weeks. I've been induced before, but I think waiting for baby is far better. "Labor vibes" to all of you.

No one can force you to be induced. It's your baby and you have to do what you feel is best for him/her. I wouldn't agree to an induction without a very good reason, at least not at 40 weeks! A normal pregnancy can last up to 42 weeks.

Thank you all for the advice...I thought about the castor oil but I wasn't so sure that was a good idea so I decided not to. I am just so afraid she is going to be a big baby and I won't be able to deliver naturally. I'm a fairly small build and I was just hoping she would come a little early and surprise me :) I guess I will just keep waiting and hoping for the best. I have been having contractions for 3 days now but nothing regular. Now I just feel icky and seemed to have lost my appet_te. Good luck to everyone and thank you again for the advice!

I think babies tend to come when they are ready. Why would all babies be ready at the same magic time? I delivered my first baby at 42 weeks. She was almost 10 lbs, but she was healthy and ate (b___stfed) well and slept for long periods right away -- a benefit to having a big baby. I felt like she came when she was ready and was glad I wasn't induced. Labor was hard b/c of her size, but she came out eventually. :) This time I'm 38 weeks and 3cm dilated. They've offered induction at 40 weeks, but I personally would prefer to wait unless the baby is in distress or I'm low on amniotic fluid or something. They can't make you induce, although I would if it was medically advisable for the health of the baby.

Got my membranes swept yesterday. I thought it would hurt like hell, but it really did not at all. I would recommend it as it has really started me off. I am 2cm dilated and have had a bloody show. Make sure that you relax while its being done and bear down slightly so that you're pushing your bottom against the bed. It is not bad and it may help you :) Good luck to all! I'm going for a lovely warm bath

I am 1 1/2 cm dialated and have little contractions but nothing is happening. I don't understand why is my baby not born yet. I don't want a big baby. But i'm a small person people say I look like I'M4 months pregnant but i'm not. I'm full term. I can't sleep at night and I get headaches alot. I want to have this baby right now. Ineed to know the reason why my baby is not in this world right now. help !!!!!!!

Ashley.. keep this in mind... your doctor won't force you to be induced if it isn't absolutely necessary. You CAN wait it out if you want. Just because she would LIKE to induce you on your due date, doesn't mean you HAVE to be induced.. the choice is yours.

Lisa, not everyone end up having a C section from being induced I was induced the first time and the contractions were just stronger and quicker I think but I had him, and I'm 38 and a half weeks now and I went to my doctors app. today and he wants to induce Sunday because the baby my go over 8lbs and my son was 8lbs and he ripped me so, I agreed to let him I'm scared of the hard contractions before my epidural but maybe everything will be ok.

Wow...thank you all for your input and advice. :) It was really helping, but then, all day Saturday (9/17) I kept feeling "different" I guess you could say and started having mild contractions. While I was on the computer that night, they steadily got worse. I went to the hospital at 12:15am because I could feel my cervix opening and I didn't want to wait too long to go. I got there and was only a three but it was the only progress I had made in 3 weeks! I progressed to a 4 by 5:00am, so they kept me. Friday night my husband and I had quite the evening and I think that could be what helped but it was my due date :) I got my epidural at about 8:30am and it almost slowed my progress. After a long day of anticipation and 11 minutes of pushing, I had my beautiful baby girl at 4:35pm Sunday evening!! I didn't have to be induced or have a membrane sweep after all. I was a small frame before I was pregnant, so for me she was big, but it wasn't bad at all. She was 8lbs even and 20 1/2 inches long. She is so perfect and very well behaved. Thank you all for the advice and Good Luck to everyone!!

I agree. I think this forum was a great help as well. I also spent a while on the computer looking for something on how I was feeling. And to see if others felt the same. I finally went to sleep about 2am, after hours of wondering why I felt strange but was not in pain, to be awoken by my water breaking at 3:30am. I was totally terrified and could not stop shaking. When I got to the hospital I was still only at 3! They gave me potocin at about 6:30 and I had an epidural at 9am. Out of 18 hours of labor I was only in pain for about 2 1/2 hrs towards the end. Thats when I turned into Linda Blair :) I pushed for about 20 mins, giving birth to the most perfect baby boy on Earth 9such a Mom) Oh and I had a v____al delivery. So I was wrong. Congrats on your new baby Ashlwy!

Hello Krystal. Due dates are an estimate, not a deadline. Your baby will arrive. Cheers.
