With my 1st baby I was induced, I could feel the contractions, but they never hurt until the doctor broke my water, it felt just like BH until then. So now I'm due again, having tons of contractions and a little achy. I'm not sure I'll recognize real labor. Has anyone else had a baby both ways?

My first 2 babies I went on my own. I woke up in the middle of the night with contractions. They got pretty strong right away so I knew that this was it. I never experienced BH contractions. With my 2nd I was 10cm when I arrived at hospital so I was in a lot of pain. With my 3rd baby just last month I was induced. I was so scared since I went on my own with the first 2 I heard it hurt a lot worse but it was not bad. An experience like what you said. Not painful until they broke my water at 7cm but he was born 45 min. after that. Honestly comparing all the labors I would say that they were all about the same pain wise. If you deliver fast you may be dilating slowly at not realize it until the really strong contractions hit...don't worry you'll know.

Thanks for the response Dani. It makes me feel better. Yesterday my blood pressure was up like the first time so I might be getting induced anyways.

I had #1 completely "natural" and with #2, had my water broken. #1 was 8 hours of labor, including 1.5 hours pushing. The pain was horrible, but built more slowly and didn;t seem as bad as with #2. In that case, labor was less than 3.5 hours, including 3-4 pushes. I thought it just progressed too quickly. I was begging for an epidural, but it turned out I was already at 10cm, so I think some of the heavy-duty pain was due to the fact that I should have been pushing. Transition with both was really quick. 6-10cm in 15 mins with #1 and about 25 mins with #2. Obviously, that is the time of the greatest pain. I was already dialted to about 4cm when i was induced. I don't think I would do it unless my body had already made progress on it's own, since I'm terrified of pitocin. I know it is cliche, but I think you'll re4cognize real labor, since it will continue to get more painful over time.

i have also had a baby both ways. first one had to be induced at 41 weeks. with my second one i started labor at home in the middle of the night. i recognized it because the contractions were strong enough to wake me up and i lost my plug when i used the toilet. even though i started labor on my own with my son they still put me on the drip. which i didnt find too bad. I find it just makes them come stronger but for me it also makes labor much more speedy. both babies were born three hours after the drip was started. also with my first i went from 7-10 cm in 15 mins and with my second i went from 6-10 in 15 mins ( doctor almost missed it..lol)
