People are always saying that you don't have to push until you feel the urge to push and that sometimes they say to push before you should. My question is that my mom always describes it saying they kept telling her not to push when she had the urge to. She said when they finally let her it was the best feeling ever. Im just confused.

I think sometimes you get the urge before you are fully dialated and they tell you not to push until you are 10cm. It is nearly impossible not to push a little, it kinda feels like your body is just doing it for you.

it depends on how the delivery is going. they dont know how you are feeling and need you to stop pushing for different reasons. they get you to push through contractions, and there will be a time or two they get you to stop but the urge comes and you have to push, just tell them this when it happens.

A woman in a coma can push a baby out because it isn't done consciously. It is done through involuntary means, like a heart beat. You will not be able to stop pushing, but you can prevent yourself from the conscious part of pushing. Doctors will stall you if the umbilical cord is placed incorrectly, or if a limb pops out, or for whatever reason they have at the time. Pushing is like breathing. You can consciously stop yourself from breathing only so long and then your body takes over. Pushing is the same way. I have seen epidural births where the woman lost the urge to push though...so take it as it comes I guess! lol

At one point they told me not to push and I was like "how do I do that???" Like everyone else said your muscles contract in all the right places to push that child out, it's nature you can try to delay it, but you can't stop it.
