Question On Baby Dropping Engaging

Just a question. When the baby drops down and engages, does it happen all at once or is it gradual? Is it very noticable etc?
I'm having this awful pressure sensation tonight, I do not think it is contractions as I don't feel any tightening. More like a heavy gas or like I need to go #2 without having to go, lol. Sorry, tmi. It's just a heavy sharp pressure.

It can happen all at once or over a few days. Usually its noticable. And that pressure is pretty normal. Ive had it for about a week now.
