Ladies, I just found out I tested positive for this little beauty. Anybody know what is involved to treat this during labor? Are you hooked up to an IV right away for the remainder of labor? or is it a quick pop and then you can still move around, etc? Does it sting? b

I also tested positive when I was pregnant and automatically I freaked out, but really it is no big deal. You do get hooked up to an IV right when you first get to the hospital and it does sting a little bit, but nothing too bad. Then you will get a dose of the penicillin every 4 hours until you have the baby. Now you can still move around while hooked up to the IV but you just have to move your IV pole thing around with you. Also if you were planning on having a water birth and getting into the birthing tub you cannot do that if you are GBS positive, or at least my hospital wouldn't let me. But really everything will be fine, I was in labor for 22 hours and I had a healthy 10lb baby boy. Good luck to you!!!

I tested GSB+ but it was no big deal. Like Amanda says, I had to be hooked to an IV during the whole thing. They also gave me fluids through that, but otherwise I had no pain meds at all. At my hospital, they wouldn't let me do a water birth, but a good friend of mine was GSB+ and her hospital let her do it. So ask if you're interested in that. Oh, I was able to move around, walk around, get up to pee, and all of that... just had to move the IV pole around with me. Like I said, not a big deal. Good luck!

In my experience I was hooked up to an IV throughout the labor process. I didn't want to get out of the bed anyways so it was no biggie. Everything turned out fine.
