Wondering How Husband Will React

My husband is the best and I love him but he has a very weak stomach and I don't know if he can take seeing me in labour when it gets rough. Are there any other women here who are wondering the same thing? My mom will be in the room with us in case, God forbid, my man has to walk out for a bit. I hope he can handle this! I will really need him just to be there. He has already told me he is going to be sitting by my head and refuses to watch the baby come out or cut the cord.

My hubby was an Emergency Medical Technician and Fireman for over 10 years, and he told me last week that he's pretty sure he might get sick in the delivery room. I was a little set back, just cause I know he's seen some pretty nasty things in his day, but if he says so, I guess I don't want to take any chances. I decided that when we get into labor and delivery, I will make sure to tell the nurses that he might get sick all of a sudden, and to have a bucket or trash can ready for him to puke if need be. I have a feeling that he'll be okay, its just him thinking so much about it before hand. However, I'm not taking any chances with him needing to run to the bathroom to puke and leaving me in pain pushing out our child :)

He might surprise you though! My husband has a weak stomach too. He got completely grossed out in childbirth cla__s watching the birthing videos. But when I gave birth, my husband was rock solid and he watched *down there* the whole time and thought it was really cool.

I think our men are really just scared for us...I know mine is...He has a fear something will happen to me..He isn't keen on being there and will not look below my waist or cut the cord...Well he says he won't look - but he's been there 3 times now with me and there have been occa__sions when he's gone very pale!! Haha! He sits by my head and I know I would stuggle without him there to keep me distracted and focused...But every preg - and we're having the conversation again already - I'm only 18 weeks - he asks if he really has to be there...Well I have to be so I see no reason why he shouldn't be there too! It took us both to make this baby , it will take us both to deliver it..Well he likes the way that sounds, who am I to disallusion him!! If it gets him in there I'll use the stupid line!!!

Have you taken a child birth cla__s with him? I think it wasn't as much for me as it was for him. We watched a video of giving birth and he was green and couldn't speak. When it came time for the actual labor he was great! I really feel like the child birth cla__s prepared him completely for what was to come. Sometimes that's all they need. Good luck!

Yes bernadteetoc, we have been taking prenatal cla__ses and he just flipped through a magazine while they played the birth video. He is learning lots though and I think it may help his anxiety.

My husband has a very weak stomach too and didn't want to be in the delivery room but I told him I really needed him with me and he agreed. He too said all he wanted to do was sit by my head and not "look" during delivery. Well, he had no choice..lol..as delivery was approaching very fast, my midwife grab my husband and told him to hold back my right leg ( a nurse was holding my left leg) and to help me push so he had a front row seat to the whole birthing process..lol..he did great and even cut the cord. Only after a few minutes later did he get light-headed and had to sit down due to overwhelming emotions as he cried when he held his daughter. I think any man will tell you it is much different when it is their own child they are watching.
