i'm 37 weeks and i've been haveing cramps off and on i feel like my period is about to come down. what does it mean to have cramps

i think its just your body's way of getting ready...iv had these same cramps on and off for a few weeks im now 38 weeks...i did lose my mucous plug afterwards so it might have meant that i was beginning to dialate and efface...i havnt had an internal since i noticed what i believe to have been my mucous plug so we'll see on thursday. good luck...warm baths help alot...walking and laying down in bed seemed to irritate mine more.
