yes. I went before going to the hospital, though, and didn't have a problem wtih that. I wouldn't have cared at the time, though.

yes this is true, I am on my 2nd pregnancy, but on my first, during labor, I did release some bowel and my sister had delivered 2days prior to me delivering and did the same. It seems yucky but it sometimes is a part of the laboring experience. dont feel embarra__sed, just feel happy that it will be all over soon.

Yes. Most women do, it is natural. Think about it, the baby is putting enormous pressure on you bowels and rectum and you are pushing at the same time to get the baby out. It is expected that if you have anything in your bowels, it's going to come out. All doctors and midwives are aware of this and deal with it with almost every birth they attend. It is not pleasant but it just happens and really all you want is your baby out. Good Luck!

They expect you to. They say that you arent pushing correctly unless you do.

my husband is worried i will do this!! its perfectly normal, nature should make you pa__s a 'doodie' (great word!!) at the very start of contractions, if you have not been the hospitals in the uk can give you something to make you go if you wish

What Stephanie said is true. When I was pushing with my daughter I was not doing it correctly at first and my doc. told me to "buldge my bottom" in order to properly push. If you are worried, you can ask the hospital to give you an enema...but it is really not a huge deal. I had no idea that I did until a couple of days later when I was told I did. Apparenlty all the nurse does is take away the pad (underneath you) and put down another one. Trust me, you could care less about taking a doodie on the table whilst giving birth....

I say "Let her Rip!" Add some comedy to the delivery room.... ease the tension!

In my childbirth cla__ses, my instructor said that if you are straining your rectum while pushing, then you are not pushing correctly. She said that pushing like you're pooping causes hemorrhoids. That's just what she said and I'm sure she should know what she's talking about because she's been an instructor for 15 years. I don't know, but that's one of my biggest fears of natural birth! I would be sooooo embara__sed if I were to even pa__s gas while pushing, much less actually poop.

How exaclty are you going to push without seeming that you are pooping and peeing? Pushing takes all muscles in your nether regions and you will poop, depending on the length of time you have gone without having a bowel movement. Steph was right, buldge your bottom....aids in pushing and you will not tear your rectum.

This is my firat pregnancy, so I haven't exactly experienced this yet. I was just saying what the childbirth instructor at my hospital told us. She said you're supposed to use your stomach muscles, not your rectum. I'm no doctor, so I guess I don't really know except by what trained professionals tell me. =)
