so my regular dr. doesnt deliver so she referred me to a delivery dr. anyways, a couple visits went by and i asked her to check if i have started to dilate. she said that it can cause your water to break so they dont do it anymore...then when i asked about the membranes being swept she started and then said i had already started to dialate so she wouldnt be able to do it... in other research ive done it sounds like most ppl get checked for progress in dilation, and the only way membrane sweeping can be done effectively is if you have began to dilate... so why would she tell me otherwise...

I didn't get an internal exam at all throughout my pregnancy until I was in active labor and they checked my progress.. My doctor said that they try to limit that type of exam as it potentially introduces bacteria, etc, that could harm the pregnancy. As far as getting membranes swept, my OB wasn't into that as well... I finally delivered at 40w 4d after a pitocin induction ( for 4 days)

Im not sure what that is all about, with my first son I was check every visit from the time I was 35wks, and now with my second, with the little contractions they will check me or if I ask they will check me so I know how things are progressing. and from what Ive been told you have to be somewhat dialated to have your membranes swept other wise they cant get thier finger in there to do it.
