Induction At 39 Weeks

I've got my induction scheduled next Monday Nov. 27th. Today I went in for my last doc appt. and she said I was only dialated to a one and he my cervix is really high. So she decided to have me go in on Sunday night at 6 p.m. to get started with cervadil overnight. I felt really confident about everything at first, but now I'm a little worried since the baby hasn't dropped yet! Is there anything I can do to get my cervix more ready? I really don't want to have a C section. Has anyone else been through something similar with a successful induction? Please help!! Thanks, Laura

Why is your doctor inducing you? A full term pregnancy is 37-42 weeks. Maybe your body and baby need alittle more time and will do do things on their own say at 40w 2d or 41w. Trust me, I am 32w 3d and can't wait until the baby is born (this is #3) and I have been induced once before, but I would rather ga alittle late than be induced for no reason. Especially since inducing before you are ready can lead to an unneccessary c-section. Are you having any problems or is it just a convenience thing for the doctor?

This being said, I was induced with my first when my water broke and I did not go into labor. I was only 1cm dilated and they did not use the gel, just started the pitocin 10 hours after I noticed my water was leaking. My ds was born v____ally 6 hours later without incident. I just find it strange that it seems more and more women are being induced before 40-41 weeks for apparently no other reason than they had not had their babies by their EDD.

Sorry, for the multiple posts...I just keep thinking of more to add. lol My second was born at 40w 6d naturally.

I've had several ultrasounds and this baby is big, his head has always measured a little larger also, so maybe thats why he doesn't want to descend. I'm a pet_te girl and my mom went over with her first, he ended up being too big for her and she had to get a c-section (She had all 3 of us kids via section). My sister-in-law had the same doc and was induced a week early with her first baby and she said she liked it better than going into labor naturally with her second. I'm not sure if all these reasons are the best for being induced, but now that I have my date set I am really excited to have him in my arms. You know how it goes, the last few weeks of pregnancy are really hard! I was just hoping there was something I could do to get this little guy to descend so my labor might not be so difficult. I think what I might do is go in Sunday, get the cervadil, and Monday morning if things aren't looking that great still, I'll go home and wait it out a little longer.

Once you are hooked up to the pitocin, they have to monitor you and in my experience they would not let me walk around. Maybe they will let you sit on a birthing ball or birthing stool or even hands and knees on the bed...all of these things can help open your pelvis to allow the baby to descend easier. I hope this helps. I know I can't wait to meet my baby either, but I still have @8 weeks to go. Wishing you an smooth delivery!
