I had mine (membrane sweep)done on the 28th of March. I am due today and nothing yet! I did lose a large glob of my mucous plug yesterday and I had very regualar contractions(though painless) for 5 hours or so. Can anyone tell me at what point I should consider going to the hospital when I am having contractions? My mother thought I should have gone last night, but the contractions didn't hurt so I thought I'd wait it out.

Bree, I went to the hospital 4 days after my first sweep only to be sent home for a false alarm. A week and a half after that, I was 60% effaced and 3 cm dialated when I had unmistakeable, painful, and regular contractions. You will know!

This is Bree (i was unregistered before) Do you promise I'll know? : ) 2 days overdue, losing a little faith in my body and natural instinct. Is it possible to be in early labour for several days? Thanks for answering...

I had mine done yesterday. The doctor said that it wouldn't work because my cervix wasn't even close to diallating. 5 hours later I lost my mucus plug. So now I'm hoping that I wil go into labor within the day. When you loose your plug that means your diallating right?

Oh. and for the pain.. It was uncomfertable but I wouldn't say it hurt like a bad cramp for me.

Suppose it all depends on the size of your midwifes hands!!
I had one today at 40w+4 and i am waiting and waiting for things to happen, but nothing yet, hopefully i will wake up in pain in the middle of the night, and be holding my baby by friday, but this seems unlikley to happen, as the midwife didnt feel 2 confident and booked me for another sweep in 7days!
It was so comfotable, the midwife talked me through what she was doing and what she could feel, and all in all i felt very relaxed, i think the amount of pain it causes really is all about how much you are able to relax, its not the most comfortable situation to be in, but the procedure itself wasnt a bit of bother.
The best part was when the midwife told me she could feel my babys head, it overwhelmed me!! I didnt believe that pregnancy slowed down once you get to ur due date, but my goodness it does.
One day very soon though, my bundle will be here, wether or not it is because of the membrane sweep, i'm just so glad my midwife made me feel so at ease!

I just had my membranes stripped yesterday. I wouldn't say it hurt but it was a lot of pressure and very uncomfortable because of it. Today I have been pa__sing a lot of mucus. Hopefully, it's the beginning of the end.

I had my membranes swept yesterday at my doctor appointment I am being induced on tuesday if this doesn't work...BUT I must say I have been on the computer researching ways to encourage labour after a membrane sweep and all im hearing is how uncomfortable it is, and how it burns, pops or just plain nasty...one woman actually said it hurts more then the baby crowning...OK maybe im just tougher then most but WHAT THE HELL....I barely felt anything, it more felt like an internal or a pap smear...she just checked me told me I was a good 3 cm 100% effaced then started turning her fingers around in there......I have had bloody show and lots and lots of mucas since it hasn't even been 24 hours. BUT it definately didn't hurt the way alot of woman are explaining it!

How long does the whole process take? Is this standard to do before an induction?
