I am a new mom, due to give birth at the end of next month. I have been having tightening of my uterus or cramping periodically since my 5th month. They are more frequent now, uncomfortable but not really painful. how will I know when real labor starts? My Doc said it is just cramping from muscles being stretched, but I dont think that makes complete sense. So i never knew if these are braxton hix or what

That is Braxton Hicks. They are contractions, just not real ones. They are sometimes called practice contractions...getting your body ready for labor. According to my midwife, real contractions can feel the same as BH, but painful. I've also heard that if pain starts in your back and radiates around to the front, that is labor...also menstral type cramps. I guess ultimately, when you notice they are coming at regular intervals and are able to time them, that should be real labor.
