i am 40 weeks and 1day today and at my last doc. apt. they never checked to even see if i was dilated, the whole time i have never been checked to see if i was even dilated or not. what if i am already like at five is that safe ? the past two days i have had a lot of back pain and pelvic pressure but no contractions?

unfortunately, Krista, If you've gone this far into your pregnancy and your doctor has not once checked you, it is my regret to inform you that you may have made a poor choice in physician selection. I would definately make it a point for this to happen as soon as you set foot in the exam room next week... you do go to the doctor once a week, right? The only sure "unmedical' advice I could give you is to watch for increased discharged, decreased fetal movement , consistant contraction patterns (mostly in your back ) and /or any sudden rupture of membranes or fluids (either pinkish, red or green)

i have a different opinion. i'm REFUSING to be checked untill i'm in active labor. all that checking is entirely unnessisary and invasive, and (in my unmedical opinion) can lead to infections. if you're at 5 and still walking around posting on the internet then you're probably fine. it's unlikely that your at 5, a check would probably dissapoint you if you think you're at 5.
