I'm 38 weeks and was checked today. I am 2cm dilated & 80% effaced. I keep having contractions but no regular ones and also crampy.. has anyone gone into labor shortly after they were told they were 2cm & 80% effaced? or have an estimate of how much longer they think it will be?

Hi...I am also 38 weeks and at my 37 week they said I was also 2cm dilated. I find out tomorrow if I've dilated any more. I wasn't effaced much at all though. I've also been having a lot of contractions, some seemed very regular but then stopped and others have been very scattered. I've also been crampy too. My doctor said I could go at any time now...so I suppose it's very possible for you to go into labor anytime now. A friend of mine was 95% effaced but not dilated at all and she went into labor that way. I have another friend who was effaced at 100% and only dilated about 1cm for weeks. She went to 40 weeks before she had her baby. So, I guess it's pretty much a guessing game. Sorry, i wasn't more hellp.

There is really no telling when exactly you will go into labor. It does however sound like it will be sooner then later. I am 38 weeks2days, 1 cm dilated 50% effaced and waiting waiting waiting.....I took castor oil today so we'll see how much longer she will stay in there. haha

hi i have 4 kids one being 24 weeks old. i have done both, gone on a few days dilated and i have also gone into labor that same day. but it is your body that will tell you. a sure sign is when the mucus plug falls out.It is pinkish color called bloody show. not so bloody though.Once that happens you should go into labor that day. hope that helps
