Ever have a doctor say the most ridiculous things to you? My family and I were discussing this today and I recall one of my OB's actually telling me that the cervix doesn't have many nerve endings in it and labor shouldn't hurt too badly there. Hmmmmm....not my experience at all for one and for two, HE didn't HAVE a cervix!!! He then went on to say that s_x wouldn't hurt as much after a c-section birth....Boy was he wrong about that as well. What over the top stuff have your doctors said to you?

Actually, ther cerivx really doesn't have many nerve endings in it. That's why you can't feel a tampon when it's high enough, and why you can't really feel the doc/nurse's fingers at your cervix when they check you. It's the lower part of the v____a that has all the nerve endings. Take care!

When I told my doctor my husband might not be here for our son's birth (deployment), he said, "Oh I understand. My wife is deployed right now." I felt like saying, "Oh really now?! You know what it is like to push a child out of your body all alone while your husband is thousands of miles away?! That's great to hear!" I know he was trying to be sympathetic or whatever, but giving birth without your husband for support and knowing he won't be able to see your child for the first eight months or so is way different than a normal deployment experience. Grrr.

I was having a terrible time with headaches and migraines, I went to the doctor to see what was going on. This is when I was 34 weeks. She looked at how miserable I was and told me I looked horrible. Then she said "but look on the bright side, you only have 6 weeks to go". 6 weeks is an eternity when you are in terrible, miserable pain. I could have reached my hands out and strangled her.

Lala, yeah, I know now since I am almost done with RN school, but something sure did feel rotten during labor LOL. baby and AmyJ. I feel badly for you girls! Baby, please tell your husband this citizen says "THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE and BE SAFE!" and AmyJ, my son has had migraines since he was a toddler (rare, but does happen) and 6 weeks of cluster migraines could be torturous to say the least! Be well and Merry Christmas!

When I had my m/c the doctor told me by saying, "Well the baby's dead... you need to go out to scheduling to have your D&C scheduled." *&*&%&()*&^.... not enough symbols to say how I felt about him! Several months later I was pregnant again... with my son... and began to bleed pretty heavily at 10 weeks, which is when I had m/c'd my first pregnancy. The only appt. I could get was with that doctor. So I went in and he wanted me to take a Rhogam shot. I asked him how likely it was that my RH- was causing the bleeding and he said not too likely at all, so I said I didn't want the shot. I remember when I had it after my first m/c that I had read that Rhogam should NOT be given in a live pregnancy before 12 weeks. He argued with me about it and went to get his medical book, came back with it... and sure enough what I had remembered was what the book said. He actually told me, "Well you have to take out the word "NOT"." In other words change the sentence from <not indicated for a live pregnancy under 12 weeks> to <indicated for a pregnancy before 12 weeks> COMPLETE OPPOSITE! I later did find out that it's commonly done under 12 weeks, but I still think I would have refused it, as I really didn't think it would help one way or the other at 10 weeks. He said, "You have the right to refuse the shot." I said, "I am refusing." Then he said, "Well, you could also do cocaine while pregnant, but I wouldn't recommend that!!" What an a88hole.

I reported him to the doctor who owned the practice... and he seemed to really listen and be concerned... but nothing ever happened. I guess I could have reported him to some medical board, but figured it would just be my word against his and I didn't feel like getting dragged through the mud or made to look like some uneducated patient that had misunderstood... especially since I was threatening to m/c and had enough stress to deal with!!! Part of me wishes I had pursued it more, but mostly I think it would have been pointless.

Poor byansmommy! Isn't it rough going those last few weeks? Good, happy labor thoughts to you*** To sahmof3 that sounds really frustrating to go through. When something just doesn't feel right it is sometimes very difficult to go against advice. I can't imagine EVER saying flat out to a patient "...well the baby's dead..." there are more comforting ways to say that other than just blurting it out! I never had Rhogam until week 28 of my pregnancies and then again after the births of my positive babies.

I didn't like one of my doctors at all and could have sworn that if I had gone into natural labor, I would've gotten him. He told me that essentially he knew everything even though it was my body and would talk over me when trying to describe something. He drove me CRAZY! He also was the only doctor in the practice that would not allow the moms to "labor down" (thats for you, djh!) My only problem was with one of the nurses right after delivery and a traumatic c-section-she tried to get me to b___stfeed, then told me I had flat nipples and would never be able to. Ha! shows how much she knows-b___stfeeding fine! :0)

djh... yeah... that's what I had, too... rhogam at 28 weeks (give or take) with each of them (well... also the rhogam after my m/c)... didn't have to get it after delivery b/c they were all - blood types. I'm glad I refused the shot... just a little way of standing up to that bully... and I truly believe that's what he is! He has a bad reputation here and I can't believe he hasn't been let go yet! In 1990 my mom was in a car accident and broke her neck. She was laying there in traction and he came in and said that her routine blood work revealed that she was pregnant. She'd had a tubal, so this was pretty traumatic news right then to say the least. Later he came in and said that the charts had been mixed up and she wasn't pregnant. She said he was really smug and she's always wondered if he did it on purpose... oh yeah... and he hended her the bill right then and there. She told him to stick it where the sun don't shine LOL and refused to pay it (and she never did) ;-) ACK! What a creep if he really did that intentionally!!!!

I was scheduling an appt w/the recept at my ob and she looked in the book and said "when you come in will you want to be seen right away?" I just stared at her. I wanted to say "actually, no, I like sitting here for 2 hours, reading 3 month old magazines and watching soaps!!!"

I've been have some really bad pelvic pains, a very sharp stabbing feeling right in the middle of my pelvic bone. I read here about SPD on another thread and looked up more about it online. Well anyhow I went in and asked the doc about it, she said that it was normal pains from the hormone relaxin. I said okay and went home. Well it had been getting worse and I went in again at my last appt and asked the doc to explain exactly what the difference was from SPD and normal joint loosening because I could hardly even move in the evenings and getting out of bed was nearly impossible. He didnt even know what SPD was, and he said that I shouldnt trust everything I read on the web because a lot of it is false information and people trying to give normal problems a fancy t_tle. He didnt even look at my pelvis. Also at the same appt I asked if I could be check to see if I was effacing or dialating and he said they dont check until 36 or 37 weeks. I was only 3 days away from 36 weeks. I said okay, at the next appt. And then I didnt get sheduled to be seen again until Jan 9! Nearly 3 weeks away at the time. Needless to say, I'm switching to another doc.

Wow, Crisi, they didn't get you in for 3 weeks when you were 36 weeks? That is a scary doctor. I saw WAY too much of my dr by that point, and you were having unexplained (by them) pain! Crazy. DJH< I am healing pretty well, thank you for asking, and my little one is doing great, although not sleeping at night really at all. He is nocturnal, just like his mommy-hopefully I can get him switched around.

That is just outrageous! We are being taught to use less medical jargon, but we are also taught not to a__sume that people are stupid either! Good to hear you are healing Eclipse and that baby-up-at-night is happily disturbing your circadian rythym :-) That sounds like a new doll, "baby-up-at-night"...Good luck, Crisis, hope you get some relief soon, and Lawlady, that is a really dumb question to ask, I mean really, would anyone have answered "no"?
