Worried About Being Induced READ THIS

My daughter Evangeline was born 48 hours ago. I went to the doctor for my 40 week appointment, and found out I was dehydrated, and would be induced in 30 minutes! I got to the hospital, filled out some paperwork. They gave me an IV and some IV fluids. At 8pm they started me on Oxytocin, which began contractions. The nurse came into my room every 30 minutes to increase the amount, until contractions were ontop of eachother, with little to no pause between them. After I recieved the epidural, things progressed very quickly. An hour later, it was time to push (which feels SOOO good), and within 4 pushes she was here. My daughter was born 5 hours after I arrived at the hospital, a truely amazing birth experience. So for all those who worry about being induced, please dont!

Did they induce BECAUSE you were dehydrated?

Congrats on your little Evangeline. Love the name!

Were you dilated or effaced any before they started this process? I almost full effaced and 3 cm dilated and am scheduled to be induced on Monday and I am very nervous about it! This story is very encouraging!!

hi there I was also induced- I went for my 39 week appointment and my blood pressure had gone up a lot .....I chose the induction and yes I was scared but can honestly say it was a fantastic birth experience. They just put the gel on my cervix and left it there for 6 hours which brought the contractions on. Then I went down to the labor room and had a shower....by the time i got out I was 5cms dialated. Then they put the drip in and also gave me an epidural after that I slept for 4 hours, woke up and was 10cms dialated and ready to push. The epi had worn off and so i felt the sensation to push and my little baby was out before I knew it. Dont be afraid of labor anyone....what is meant to be will be and everyones experience is unique.....you just get into a zone and deal with whatever comes your way and we all have the ability to birth babies.

I'm 40 weeks, and I have only dialated 1 cm. My dr. says that if I have not further dialated I may be induced. I hope that if it comes down to being induced, that my experience is as simple and quick as yours.

For those that were wondering - I was induced because I was becoming dehydrated, and was having a lot of problems eating because of severe nausea. I was 40 weeks, 3 cm dialated, and almost fully effaced, which made me a good candidate for an induction. I suppose thats why things happened so quickly.

anytimelittleone, that is so encouraging!! LIke I said before, at my appt Thursday I was almost fully effaced and 3 cm dilated, so I hope my induction in 9 hours goes as smoothly as yours did!!!

I had an amazing birth experience as well. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat just to experience it once more. :) I was also induced and had an epidural (bows before the almighty epidural machine).

AnytimeLittleone, Great story, We're all hoping for the same. My doctor is talking induction, but I am not dilated at all (40 weeks+2). There is still about a week and half before we would induce. Does anyone know about induction when the cervix isn't favorable? I'm very concerned. Baby is still kind of high up, but I feel a lot pressure when I walk now. Anyone been induced in thsi situation?

AnytimeLittleone - August 19

When you're induced and your cervix isnt favourable, they swab your cervix with a gel that causes it to dialate. They basically "force" a favourable situation.

I will be induced on Monday night. My cervix is softening but I've had no dilationat 40 weeks. It's encouraging to hear some positive experiences about inductions. I will be given the cervadil and pitocin. Maybe I won't need to pitocin, who knows. All I know is I wil finally be seeing my first baby girl Tuesday morning!

I'm being induced Monday night also with Pitocin and Cervidil. I'm hoping he will come on his own before then. i can't wait to see my little one!

yea hon, you got lucky. I had a terrible induction that almost led to a csection because the pitocin (oxytocin) dropped my daughters heart rate into the 80s. There are good and bad stories about labor and delivery whether it be about induction, epidurals, st_tches etc. However, when inductions are absolutely necessary they are a god send, I just hate seeing people put their childs life in danger because they are "uncomfortable" and dont want to be pregnant anymore.

I was induced with my daughter when i was 36 1/2 weeks. My water broke and they needed to induce me so that there wasnt a chance of either of us getting a infection. When i went in the hospital i was 3 cm dilated and they gave me Pitocin when i wasnt dialating soon enough. I recieved a epidural some time hours later. I cant say being induced was enjoyable, my daughter was fine, but my contractions came very hard and fast and i was to early on to get a epidural yet. They gave me some kind of funny juice that made me feel like i had one drink to many, it didnt really take the pain away, but it made me laugh through it.
