I remember reading somewhere that your abdomen size can be an indicator of a fetal abnormality.

They measure your abdomen to see that the child is growing. I don't see how you can get a fetal abnormality by not measuring properly. You just might not be gaining as fast or as much as the doctor would like. The most I ever gained with any of my children was 23 lbs. Each pregnancy after I lost weight and gained less weight.
