Just wondering if anyone has any input on my situation. I had an ultrasound and am 5w, 4 days, my hcg level was 14,000. The tech only saw gestational sac and yolk sac. My doctor called and said she was "very concerned" since at this hcg level she felt there should have been more to see. (But at 5 weeks??) I had my levels tested again (48 hours apart) and my level only jumped to 18,000. The doctor then said she "wasn't very optimistic that this was a viable pregnancy." She's so pushy about having a D & C done. I haven't had any signs of miscarriage yet, and feel that there is still hope. Is it possible my hcg levels will double later or not at all and still have a viable pregnancy??? She wanted to repeat the u/s and then if no change schedule the D&C the next day. Why is she so negative about everything??? I don't know if I should find another doctor or what... any advice???

Your stiory sounds an awful lot like one of those cases where the Dr. is too quick to jump to a D & C. I don't think that hcg levels are supposed to be doubling at that high of a level. If i were you i would be getting a second opinion asap! As long as you haven't had symptoms I would not let anyone do anything at this point. My prediction is that they will see the baby in your uterus very soon. Let us know what happens Jeanie. Good luck!
