I am 21 yrs old and 21 wks pregnant. I had an ultrasound last Friday and they discovered a hole in my babys heart....or ventricular septal defect. (And I'm having a boy!!) I was sent straight to see my doctor who advised me I would have to have another ultrasound where they have more efficient equipment and see a heart specialist for results. The current report says the hole is small, which my doctor says would cause no problems to the baby. Only if it is large will it cause heart failure and he will need sugery after birth. I am so scared but am trying to stay positive. I have the follow up appt on thursday afternoon. Has anyone else had a child with this defect??? How did you cope and did it cause any major problems for your baby? The doctor says it is fine until after he is born, then he will be using his own lungs to breath and the heart will need to work harder.

Awe poor you! I went through the same thing when I was pregnant with my daughter. At my 20 weeks I had an ultrasound thats when I found out....from then on....I ate anything that they said was good for the heart...Cherios, beans (I hate beans) ect.. just to feel like I was helping her. As time went on in the pregnancy the hole got smaller. by time she was born it was a little tiny pin hole. She was and is fine now!
