Period Like Pain Near The End Of Pregnancy

My sister is in the middle of the 8th month of her pregnancy, and at night she experienced period-like pains in her lower stomach. This has only happened once so far.
Is there a reason for this and should she be worried?

Is this her first pregnancy? The baby is probably beginning to drop and as the head moves into the pelvic bone the expecting mother will experience discomfort like as if her pelvic bone is being pulled apart. It probably feels like aweful period cramps. Usually this happens a week or so before labour, but it's not uncommon for a first time mother to experience this as early as almost a month before labour.
