Polyhydraminos And Uterus Size

My wife was recently diagnosed with polyhydraminos and is in her 31st week. This basically means that there is too much amniotic fluid that is being produced. I would like to be able to track the size of her uterus to figure out if the volume is increasing. I know the doctor measure certain things to figure out the size, I am just not sure exactly what is being measured. It seems our doctor is not worried, but after I did my research it seems like about 20% of the time this is due to a birth defect. Somehow being involved seems like it would lessen my sense of helplessness and some of the worries that my wife is having.
