Slight Spotting In12th Week

I am 12 weeks preg, and this is my first child. I had some dark brown spotting the other day, and then again yesterday. I don't go back to the doc until Oct. 22. They said since I am 12 weeks, that's a good sign. Has anyone else had any problems with this? I also had like a blood clot yesterday too. I know that is gross, I just need some advise please.
