Small Gestational Sac And Slow Hcg

Hi
I am 39yrs old. I believe I am about 5-6 weeks pregnant. My first hcg test was 1500 2 days later 2400 then 4 days later 5200. Dr said it is increasing more slowly than they would like which could indicate m/c on way. Had U/S today, dr saw gestational sac but nothing in it. Said GS was quite small (about 5-6mm) and I should not get my hopes up. Had no cramps or bleeding. Are the signs definite for a miscarriage is my hcg that slow. I am still hoping it will be ok but could be in vain. Any similar stories sucessful or otherwise appreciated.
