Hi plz bare with me as im writting i just want to give enough info so you can help me with some advice. ok me and my husband are ttc for a yr and half now. the dr says were both fertile but just takes time. how long geez. we are married and have been together 4 7 yrs, never used condoms or birth control. I have regular periods just differ by a day sometimes. i have ovarian cyist but they say there not harmfull just maligment. but see when i get my period they are so painfull where i cant move or get out of bed and they make me cry and i have to go to the hospital sometimes cause there so bad. then theres times when there not even there, the dr says its just the cyist leaking sometimes. i have read when you have painfull periods its usual harder to get pregnant. is that true? i can tell when i am ovulating an all but we usual have s_x the day i start ovulating or day after. i still have not gotten pregnant. can anyone give me adivce on how and when to have s_x and all? I'd really apriciate it. thanks and good luck to you all.oh and also advice an what to chart and how. sry for such a long thing. btw my last period was july 27 , so when should we have s_x?

Best to have s_x in the 3 days leading up to ovulation so that the sperm is ready and waiting for the egg. As well as after.

If you've been trying that long I wouldn't exactly call you fertile.. has your dr said anything about going to a specialist? We went to one after trying for a year and it ended up that I only needed three months of clomid and we were pregnant. You might want to look into this. As for charting, take your temp with a basal thermometer every morning, and when it spikes, you are about to ovulate. But don't overdo s_x, just every other day is sufficient or you won't have a good buildup of sperm. I would definitely ask about clomid if I were you. Hope it all works out!

Vanessa - The best time to ttc is the week before ovulation and the day of ovulation - either every day or every other day - remaining lying down for half an hour with a pillow beneath your hips and legs apart is also said to help. If you haven't been using contraception for 7 years you definately need to see a fertility specialist. Even after 1 1/2 years of trying I think you need to at least get a more helpful doctor (or a specialist) and insist that the doctors do tests on both yourself and your husband. We tried ttc for 2 years before going to the doctor, I changed doctors to get a helpful one. He sent me me and my husband for tests and it turned out we couldn't have kids without IVF with ICSI due to male subfertility. I'm no expert on painful periods but I think they can mean you have endometrosis, which can make it harder to get pregnant - a ultrasound can see this. Having periods as pinful as you have is not normal and the doctors should also help you with this. I don't know how to chart but you can get an ovulation test from the chemists to see if and when you are ovulating. Good luck ttc and babydust.

If your cycle is 28 days from first day of period to first day of next period, you should ovulate around the 14th day. Noams is right, you need to have s_x BEFORE you ovulate, the sperm needs to be there before the egg, the egg is only good for 24 hours, the sperm up to 4 days. So s_x two days after ovulation wont work. Look into natural family planning to see how to chart your body signs and temperature, or invest in ovulation prediction kits, but I would definately look further because it does sound like a fertility issue. Good luck.

Hi Vanessa, I not sure how old you are, but this is important... I am 32 when we started trying. Eager beavers... to be pregnant. After several months, my OBgyn said we should start charting. This is important because it is the proof that you are doing everything at the right timing and that your cycles are as they should be. We did this for 6 months and then did a review with the OBgyn... this is the medical stats he was looking for to advise to the move to the next step. We got pregnant the 7 month, the month we were recommended to see a specialist... Months leading up we starting having s_x on the 10th day after my period to the 6 day after my temp rose. This have been successful for most of my friends. For us, we had to narrow the focus, :), and this finally worked.
