What Should I Do -pg111839448418

What should I do?!?? - June 10

I'm 21 weeks pregnant and I was told I had bacterial vaginosis after I got the PAP test done. My midwife told me to goto my doctor to get a perscription to treat it, but my doctor said that he has never given a perscription for it. He used to deliver babies for about 30 years, and said that it was a very common (a quarter of pregnant women get it) and has never perscribed it. He said that it will clear up eventually, and also the medication used to treat it can actually harm the baby. He also asked a coleague of his that still delivers babies and he doesn't perscribe it either. He sent a letter explaining this to my midwife and she said that if I didn't trest it it can cause complications in the pregnancy and/or get a post-pregnancy infection. So I'm hearing from 2 diffrent reliable sources 2 diffrent things; "you don't need to treat it" & "you should treat it or else..." My doctor and my midwife pretty much said it's up to me weather I want to treat it or not. I don't want to harm my baby, but I don't want any problems to occur during my pregnancy either. It's not a bad case of it I don't think ... I just have excess discharge. I don't think it smells horribly, and it's not itchy or painful. If this is as common as my doctor says it than alot of women on this forum should have the same problem as me. Please give me some advice!!! Any comments or answers will be greatly appreciated!! --SORRY FOR THE LENGTH OF THIS POST!!

I'm not sure but I remember reading something about it in the book 'What to Expect when you're expecting'. I thought they said it needed treating but I'm not certain. This book is very good so it maybe worth you getting it.
