Sorry Michah you must be v worried. The first thing is that if they are choroid plexus cysts they are not 'on' the brain but inside and they are just little spaces filled with naturally occurring fluid. Usually they mean nothing at all, but if they are combined with other findings seen on an ultrasound scan, e.g. heart problems, this suggests a higher risk of trisomy 18. BUT still only a higher risk. I guess your health provider has offered you an amniocentesis, especially as your previous baby had chromosome problem - and up to you & partner to decide what to do, but don't feel you have to. My son (who is now 11) had two quite large cysts - he's fine, but I know how you feel. Good luck.

Well thank U so much for the info and yes she did explain to us that it was in the brain and usually go away and they did not find anything else wrong just the cysts but still is hard now to be excited because of so much fear that has now set in! again thank U so much for the uplifting info...

Micah that sounds like good news. I understand how you feel it spoils things. It might help you to know that at the hospital where I had my scan they no longer report isolated CPCs, i.e. cysts where no other marker is found because of the unecessary worry it causes. Wishing u lots of luck.

I am 20 weeks pregnant, and similar to most of the women here, my baby boy has 2 CPC's. Both my husband and I were alarmed by the news, but we thought about it calmly. For all you women freaking out there, let me ask you a question - suppose your baby does have a defect, would you consider aborting him at this point? If the answer is 100% YES, then do the amnio to confirm. My husband and I decided we would keep our child - no matter what. So we're not even worried about it. We're not doing any level 2 US or amnio or anything. It is what it is and we will accept destiny's writ. Stay strong!

Hi there,
I wanted to comment on this post as last week we were told during our 20 week scan that our daughter had two 3mm and 1.6cm CPC's. We were totally terrified. I had never heard of them and obviously we went into a tail spin of worry and fear. I am age 39 and at 12 weeks did the blood test and nucheal chord testing and fortunately all was good - my numbers were good. Then at the 20 week scan apart from the cysts the baby looked very good nothing else seemed to be wrong. Due to my age and the size of the cyst my Dr suggested that we just check things out to rule out any problems, in the end we went for an amnio and were delighted when the results were good. Basically the Dr who performed the amnio was incredible he was very positive and said that age really was not the problem and due to the fact that my blood work was good and the baby looked great on the scan he was not worried. Of course my husband and I were still scared until we got the results of the amnio. I think if this happens to you try to remember that this is a relatively common occurrence in babies.....it is time for more research to be done and more rea__surance giving to parents who are told that their babies have these cysts. I just wanted to pay it forward - our good news and experience and try to offer you support - as so many of the previous comments helped me to calm down a little. take care xxx
