Yesterday I have my 20 week ultrasound and and found out I was have a baby girl, our first baby. It was wonderful to see my little girl! I was told my daughter had 2 cpcs, one of each side. The ultrasound tech seemed confident that they usually go away. Although, the doctor gave me a little scare stating that they could be signs of down syndrome. I have a level II u/s scheduled for tomorrow and am a nervous wreck. Although, researching this as put my mind at ease a lot. 1/100 babies have this and the chance of it having to do w/ a birth defect is less than 1%. Feeling a little better, but not totally rea__sured. Hopefully tomorrow with end this worry. Thank all of your stories and insight. God Bless

Tina, I hope this helps, but when I asked our geentic counselor if CPC's were markers for Downs she emphatically stated, "no!" She said that they are a marker for Trisomy 18, but it is a VERY rare disorder. Most likely your baby is fine and this CPC will resolve itself! Just hang in there and keep reading this sight to rea__sure yourself! Good Luck!!

My ultrasound shows no more cysts- and no more heart spot!!!!! YEAH!! Hang in there, y'all.

Hi everyone - I'm so happy to have found this site. Yesterday my husband & I went for my Level II u/s and the Dr. called us at home to tell us he saw a cpc on the sono. We, too, are having a boy - from reading the postings, it seems to be common in boys. The Dr. also mentioned a slightly dilated kidney (which is also common in boys). We're so scared and I cried for hours yesterday. I'm 37 and this is baby #2) and my dr. suggested an amnio but we're concerned about the risks there, too. My AFP and other blood test all came back fine which is why we are so confused about the u/s results. Which do you believe, the blood test or the u/s. Thank you all for sharing your stories - they are all so encouraging...just what we needed to hear.

Although my OB think it's not necessary to do an amnio, I think I probably still want to do an amnio to make sure everything is fine with the bb. According to what I have read, even the bb may a__sociated with any chorosome disease, the cyst will resolve anyway. So whether the cyst resolve or not after 26 weeks doesn't indicate the bb is free from any possible disease. Is that true? Does anyone know?

I believe that is true. The fact that the cyst is/was there never goes away. However, I have taken comfort in the info that my Dr. gave me......this is simply a "variance of normal." It is a soft marker, and many medical journals are discussing dismissing them as markers at all. Also, CPC's are only markers for trisomoy 18. If our babies did in fact have trisomoy 18, it is almost a "for sure" that something else would show up on the ultrasounds.....ie...club feet, hands only held in the fist position, cleft lip, etc. Our babies would be very disabled, and it is almost impossible for the Dr.'s to not catch something else on the ultrasound. Having been through this once before with my last baby (who is perfect), I am a little calmer. I do go back for my next ultrasound tomorrow, and it will make me feel better if they continue to find that everything else is as it should be. I did have an amnio last time, but really didn't like the experience and elected not to have one this time. Nothing can be changed now anyway!! Keep reading this message board....I think it's good for all of us to communicate with people who are in the same boat!!

Went for my level II today, no signs of a cyst. Can you believe that?? 3 days later and nothing, must have never been anything. I was a wreck for days, now feeling wonderful. Goodluck everyone!

Hi Ladies. I have just returned from my doctors, with the news that there is a choroind plexus cyst on our unborn child's cranium (we are 21 weeks pregnant). Ofcourse as in your cases the doctor insisted I not worry, and had me schedule another ultra sound for 4 weeks. I can't help but repeat what most have you have said already, "how do we not worry"! I came home so upset and not sure of what to tell my husband. I got very little info from the doctor, so I immediately went to the internet, and atleast am beginning to understand what these cysts are and why they cause a concern. I guess there is nothing else to do but wait until the next ultrasound. Gosh this is so hard, I just want everything to be okay. I am thinking of all of you as we all go though these anxious motions.

Hi all, we are 25 & 26 and having our 3rd child, 1st girl in Oct. yesterday I went to see my midwife and she told me, like you guys, that they 'thought' they had seen these cysts on our baby's brain, we have to go back for another U/S at 26 weeks. My midwife was as helpful and supportive as she possibly could be but said she needed to do some refresher reading on it too, seems like a lot of you have issues with your docs not keeeping you fully informed, wonder if this is a differnce between a doc and a midwife, she understands my worry and wanted me to write down all my questions and call her today. Of course I've come up with a whole list! I've been reading that these cysts only show up in about 2 % of pregnancies, is this right? As far as I know there were no other problems with our ultrasound.....it's like waiting for any other test result, only worse because it's your baby, we will all drive ourselves nuts! I never got the quad screen tests as they said there wasn't much need as both my boys are healthy and I am so young, really regretting that now, although I would never have aborted even if the baby has T18, just a shock this far along. I feel like i was over-confident and this is my fault although i know it's not, must be the catholic in me:) Is it right that the cysts disappear even in unhealthy babies? I hadn't come across that info yet. I wish you all the very best of luck, I will be thinking and praying for us all.

Hello everyone, I last wrote in around the 2nd week of May. I was then 23 weeks when bilateral cpc's were found on my baby boy. I am happy to announce that yesterday, at now 27 weeks, both have disappeared. My husband and I are so relieved, now I can finally enjoy the rest of my pregnancy. Some advice to the other parents dealing with this..... You "HAVE" to stay positive, not only for you, but for the health of your babies. Believe I know, I spent hours and hours researching on the internet for weeks driving myself crazy. Also try not to read to much info, about cpc's because there are so many bogus websites out there on the net, it will drive you insane. Keep yourself busy, and before you know it, it will be time for a follow-up ultrasound and the cpc's will no longer exist, and you too can be rest a__sured. I will keep everyone in my prayers, chin up and stay strong.

Hello all! How wonderfully encouraging everyone is and how blessed we are to be mothers! I wrote much earlier about a CP cyst in my 7th child and we had our f/u recently. As expected the CP cyst did go away (the physician at the hospital explained that all CP cysts go away). He checked the other markers (cleft lip, hands, heart, thigh bone length, heart valves, growth rate, etc) and all are showing that our little one seems to be growing fine. He did say, however, that while this does look good for the little guy, he cannot rea__sure us 100%. Our chances of our son having T-18 still exist because of the detection of a CP cyst (even though it went away). My personal OB said that he has delivered a baby with a CP cyst that went away, the baby had no other markers and growth was fine, etc..., but the child still was born with the fatal T-18. So at 26 weeks we feel calm but prepared. The positive side seems to be that no other markers are present that would indicate T-18, however, because there was a CP cyst the chance of T-18 still exists. As it is out of our hands anyway (and in much better hands anyway...God's!) we feel much more at peace than when we first found out about the CP cyst. I encourage you all to be sure to ask detailed questions of your OBs until you feel satisfied...they are there to help! I especially appreciated my f/u ultrasound so that I could have a chance to see my little blessing again. I asked the tec. how you get someone to agree to give you a 3-D version and she said that she would be happy to do it for us! How amazing to see our child in 3-D! I would a__sume that may techs would be open to switching to 3-D for a patient that had such serious concerns for her child's health (if they had the capability, of course). Hang in there, everyone! You all will remain in my prayers. God bless!

Hi Laurie, My OB has given me all of the same info that yours did! The fact that the cysts were there never goes away, and the cysts ALWAYS do dissolve because they have to...there's no room in the brain for the cysts to remain once the brain starts growing. We can all feel much better when all other "parts" of our babies are measuring "normal." My OB did a__sure me that almost never does a baby actually have trisomy 18 without other markers. Your ob delivering a baby who didn't have other markers but did have t18 must be one for the medical journals.....but it's so good for us to have true knowledge about what these cysts could mean. I'd rather have a little bit of warning with the true answers our ob's give us, then the false rea__surance that everything will be ok for sure!! Thanks for sharing!!

Laurie, great info in your 6/22 post. Here is a good link with Trisomoy 18 information for those who need more. http://www.trisomy.org/html/trisomy_18_facts.htm It is still a pretty rare defect although it is probably good/conservative that your doctor is being so cautious on offering rea__surances. I have mentioned previously that I had a CVS test (which tests chromosomes) prior to having an ultrasound that found a CPC. So I am "proof" that it is definitely possible to have a CPC but NO chromosal abnormalities (just to keep things in perspective).

Marla, 11 years ago I had a beautifil baby girl, I was 30. She had 2 cysts on one side of her brain and a larger one on the other. She had no other markings...and the waiting for the amnio results were terrible. The cysts went away just as the doctors said and today she is the most beautiful and sweetest little girl in the universe!
