One of the complications of PIH is low birth weight babies. There is really no way of knowing why the baby was so small with out talking to your doc.

Your doctor can give you blood pressue medications. Possibly with your medical history you need to see a perinatologst instead of a regular OB. If you are pregnant again, you should ask your doctor about monthly ultrasounds to check growth. I had PIH with my first pregnancy and had several ultrasounds and weekly non-stress tests from 28 weeks on. I had my daughter at 36 weeks by emergency c-section and she weighed 6lbs 4oz. I am 32 weeks pregnant with my second child. I've been on aldomet for my blood pressure since 22 weeks. I just had an ultrasound and my baby weighs 4 lbs 12oz so far. I'll probably have this baby at 36 weeks or 38 weeks at the latest.
