I am new to this site. I was searching the web to find out about echogenic focus and I stumbled onto this forum. I am 20 weeks pregnant and they too found a "bright spot" in the baby's heart. My doctor told me not to worry and sent me back for a level 2 ultrasound. It's kind of hard not to worry when you hear the words Down Syndrome. I did have the blood test and it was negative so I guess that is a good sign. At the level 2 ultrasound I really didn't get much answers. The doctor said everything looked ok and that I have a 1 in 1500 chance of having a child with down syndrome because of my age ( I am 20 ) and the negative results for the blood test. I go back for a follow up in 6 weeks to measure the heart and all that fun stuff. I am def. scared but reading that so many of you have had the same results makes me feel alot better. Like I am not the only one. I am still scared but am trying not to worry for my little girls sake. This forum is really helpful.

i am in basically the same situation as you all! although i am worried out of my mind! my dr of 11years promised me my baby is fine and that he would never ever hide anything from me! he said that this spot usually always goes away on its on prior to birth but if it doesn't that it will eventually fix itself and cause no cause for concern! he found the spot at 18wks & said he would check again at 32wks to see if it was gone! i had the US last week & the spot is still there, no larger or no other concerns! they looked at his organs very closely & measured everything which he said measured & looked perfect! he weighed 4lbs & 9ozs which he said was good as well! i am 33 now & will turn 34 one month prior to my babies delivery! my dr never mentioned that it could be related to DS and acts really confident that all is well! he thinks i am overreacting and worrying for no reason! i only found out that it could be related to DS by doing endless research on the internet! deep down i feel that everything is fine and then that possibility of something being wrong enters my mind & clouds my otherwise rational thinking! these postings seem to help my feelings, especially hearing the wonderful stories of babies being born healthy! i have been praying really hard for my baby as well as everyone else that is going through this worry! God Bless everyone & their perfect little ones! i would appreciate any words of encouragement! i have 7 long weeks until my due date! hopefully i wont go out of my mind between now & then! ;-)

Hi,I'm so glad that i found this site! i had my 2nd trimester ultrasound yesterday where they found an echogenic foci on our baby girl's heart. The doctor told us that it was nothing to worry about because that was the only soft marker that was found. He said that he wouldn't suggest any further testing due to my age and our history (neither one of us have any history of d/s at all) and the fact that the chances of miscarriage with amnio is much greater than the risk of our baby having d/s. I am only 19 years old. I was wondering if anyone knew the risk or chances/probability of my baby having d/s?? and has anyone else my age went through it?? Please help calm my fears!! Any feedback will help!

Hi! I am 31 years old and 18 weeks pregnant with a little boy. Our anatomy u/s showed bilateral echogenic foci in the heart. My quad screen was normal and the rest of the u/s was normal. I went to a specialist today and he said that since I had no other signs or d/s or anything else wrong - he wouldn't worry. They see these a lot of these apparently, and most of them go away or don't cause problems. He said my chances of having a d/s baby are exactly the same as the were before -low. My doctor didn't seem concerned at all, and the u/s techs said they usually don't tell the parents if the u/s is normal because it just causes worry. Hang in there, I'm sure your little girl will be perfect!

My baby had both an echogenic focus AND a choroid plexus cyst -- in other words, TWO soft markers. I worried endlessly about what this could mean but did not want to risk an amniocentesis. Well, my beautiful baby girl was born perfectly healthy in every way. I would say: DO NOT WORRY ABOUT IT.

I am 23 years old and just found out at my 19 week u/s that my baby has an echogenic focus of the heart. I have been worrying ever since and I am anxiously waiting my level 2 u/s. There is no history of d/s in my family or my husband's and the doc. said that this is a common finding, so I'm trying not to worry too much. Anne, I never saw any update on your baby after you delivered. Was everything okay??

I wanted to share my story in hopes that you may find peace. I had a very difficult pregnancy with my second child. At my 20 week ultrasound, a cpc and echogenic focus were found. At the same time a bleed on my placenta was discovered. We chose not to do an amnio because of the risks, and because in the end the results wouldn't have changed our mind about our pregnancy. I also failed my quad screen for downs. So, at 31, I was considered a high risk for having a downs baby. I think I was given a 1 out of 171 odds. When they discovered my two soft markers, at my level 2, my downs risk was cut in half. I was terrified. My first pregnancy was so enjoyable and happy- now I was living a nightmare. It just seemed that everytime I went to the doctor, I was given bad news. Finally, after many days, nights, weeks and months of crying, I turned to my faith. I prayed and prayed. There was a time when the doctors told me that I may not make it to term because of my placenta problem. Not only was I facing a possible downs baby, I was also not sure if my baby would even survive in my womb. Their goal was for me to get to 30 weeks. Well, I surpised them all! I not only got to 37 weeks, but my bleed in my placenta completely went away before my delivery-- and to top that off- my little boy was born perfectly healthy at 7 pounds and 3 ounces! Not bad for a baby 3 weeks early. I use to read these blogs thoughout my pregnancy for peace of mind knowing that I wasn't alone. Well, I promised that I would share my story. I have learned that technology and science are not perfect- have faith! Good luck to you all!

I wanted to thank you all for posting your experiences with woman who are pa__sing thru the same thing. I am 28 years old and on my 29 week of pregnancy they found an echogenic focus in my babyboy's hearth, they told me it was nothing to worry about because of the other tests and my chances for having a D/S baby is 1 in 4500. I still think something could go wrong, otherwise they wouldn't tell you a thing! I decided not to get the amnio because it would change my opinion of having the baby or not. All I want is my baby to be healthy! I'm so worry for next appoiment, please keep posting your experiences so we all can be inform!
