Gallstones During Pregnancy

hey gals, I'm doing better one of my bandages fell off but the st_tches are still there. I don't know whats going to happen. Tami, I think that your cuts are hurting again because you are doing too much, you may feel that you are a lot better but you should really take it slow for the next couple of months. I know I need to get up and clean and do laundry but I cant. Its fustrating because you are not only tired from the pregnancy but you have to deal with incisions and pain because of the surgery. I can definitely say that two pregnancies are enough for me and I am done. I have gained about 20 pounds already. I gained 50 pounds with my first child and ended up having a 8 1/2 lb. baby measuring 20 1/2 inches long. My doctor only wants me to gain about 35 pounds because my first baby was way to big for me and I had to have an episiotomy.

Tami - July 5

Anna you are probably right. I am most likely doing too much. My husband and I are moving around the 22 and I am trying to get all of our stuff packed. I should take it a lot slower though, becuase I have already packed the majority of our apartment. It is so hard though, as you seem to be feeling as well because there is so much that we need to do still like laundry and all that stuff, yet we need to recover plus we are pregnant! It is frustrating! Hopefully your little girl won't be very big this time and you won't have to have an episiotomy. I really don't want to have to have one! So far my little girl has measured small on the last two ultrasounds that we had, so maybe I won't get a big baby! As long as I have a healthy little girl though, than I guess I will be okay. My husband and I want a big family (3-5 children), but after this pregnancy I am not sure I can handle being pregnant that many times. I want to adopt a baby from Africa, so we might have to start adoption sooner than we though. I will for sure try one more pregnancy, and we'll see how it goes. It will be fun for you to have your two little girls. Have you thought of a name for this one yet? Shelly-how are you doing today? I hope that all is going well! Let us know. Isn't there only two weeks until you are at 37? I'm sure you are getting so anxious! Well, I will talk to you ladies later!

Hey gals, I was wondering if your surgeron has told either one of you foods you should avoid after the surgery. My doctor said that I should try to eat everything and eliminate those that cause me trouble. My main concern was having diaharria after eating a meal because that was what everyone else said was their number one complaint after the surgery. I was just thinking how you too ended up with gallstones because gallstones are known to produce after pregnancies or genetics. My case was both because I did not have gallstones till two years after my little one was born but my mother just recently had her gallbladder removed about eight months ago, she all kinds of other surgeries when she had hers removed. I have been eating everything that bothered me before and nothing has given me any problems. Although today my morning sickness came back but that must be my body still adjusting to all the changes especially my digestive system. Shelly, have you had any problems taking your prenatal vitamins does it give you any additional pain because of the gallstones. I can't imagine being on such a strict diet and have to deal with all the normal cravings that come with pregnancy. My mother always told me that if you did not eat the food you were craving your baby will come out looking like that food. That is a joke I use on my husband a lot when he doesn't want to go and get my latest cravings, I always tell him when our baby comes out looking like pepperoni pizza its going to be all your fault. This is something totally off subject, I was also wondering if you too have heard about Susan Torres. I highly recommend that you go to the family's website and read on her this is a case that really has touched my heart, especially since she is pregnant and about the same time along in her pregnancy as me. The website is Susantorresfund.org

Hey ladies! Anna-my surgeon told me that I probably shouldn't eat fried foods for the next couple of months, or a lot of them at least. i don't eat a lot of fatty foods already, but I have had some french fries (I was craving them and couldn't resist!) They didn't cause me any problems. My morning sickness has come back as well, well actually it never really left and was more like an all day nauseaus kind of thing, but I am hoping it is becuase my body is adjusting to the surgery still. Hopefully it goes away for both of us soon huh? I think my gallbladder problem is a genetic thing that came about in pregnancy due to the different factors. I know I have family members on both sides that have had to have thier gallbladders out. In fact my great-grandma died when her gall bladder burst-scary huh? I also want to know how you do it Shelly! It must be hard when you crave something and you just can't have it or you will face the consequences. It seems like when something is off limits you crave it more also! Luckily you will be able to eat that stuff soon. Do you know how long after you have your baby they are going to do the surgery? Hopefully as soon as you recover! Hey if you end up having to have a c-section (heaven forbid) they could just take it out right then, and that would be then end! Anna, I have heard of Susan Torres. That is so tragic. I can't imagine what her family is going through. We are praying that her baby makes it to a viable age and is born healthy. It makes life seem even more precious when you hear about situations like this. Well, hope you ladies have a good night. It is 11:00 here and my sweet girl is moving like crazy so I just can't get comfortable! Sleep well, and I will talk to you tomorrow!

Goodmorning!! I've been doing pretty good this last week.Of course i never know when i'will have an other attack. The last one was last week thursday and prevoius to that one was on saturday. That was 2 attacks in 5 days.Jesse already dropped so maybe that will help with less attacks.Right now we are placing bets on when he is going to be born.I'm still going with earlier than 40 weeks.Probably 37-38 weeks.I picked july 29,my hubby august4, another friend thinks it will be later so he is going for the 14th(of aug). Going on your questions,i have no idea how on earth i got these gallstones.NOBODY in my family has had them,pre-pregnancy my weight was 134 pounds and i'm 5.6 I wasn,t big and once in a while i would have junkfood but on the average i always ate pretty healthy. So i don't know how i got them.and yeah, its sucks having them during pregnancy, the first month i had a hard time with it,it really felt like i could not eat anything.I almost cried a couple of times. Now for the last months i have discovered a pretty good variety of non fatty, non spicy, tasteless LOL food.I think it was just a change of att_tude.I have never been a drinker but from time to time i enjoyed a margarita or a gla__s of wine.Of course during pregnancy you can't have any,and cuz you can't you want it.Well all i had to tell myself was to think about the baby and my craving disappeared, and i do the samewith food.I see somebody eat mozarella sticks (i want one soooooooooooooo bad) i think how its going to be harmfull and go attack some low fat yoghurt(even though its not the same).I also quit smoking!! And i waaaaaay downsized with my coffee intake,AND i quit drinking pepsi. So i quit A LOT of stuff with this pregnancy.I thought i might as well go extreme. Now i'm making a lot of smoothies, i eat a lot of fruit, granolabars, Arby' s & Quiznos, salads, grilled steaks, ham and bagels. Right now i'm scheduled to have my gallbladder removed two weeks after i deliver the baby. And i don't think i could handle having a C-section and gallbladder removal in one.I now it sounds ideal, have it all over with but how would all of that take? I guess the c-section is all and all about 30 minutes incl the st_tches,and the gallbladder thing is about two hours.I can't wait that long to see my newborn?Plus i want to b___stfeed.I i don't want to think how sore i will be after the drugs wear out.Hopefully i will just have a v____al delivery and surgery after that.Just keep your fingers crossed for me.I haven't gone to susan torres website yet,is she the one that is braindead and pregnant? Sorry, i hardly watch tv nowadays.I'll check it out later.I got to go now,you ladies take care of yourselfs and DON'T OVERDUE IT. talk to you all later!!!!!!

Shelly - July 6

I almost forgot;i haven't had any problems with taking my prenatal vitamins and for the last 6 weeks i'm also on iron supplement and they have been great,i'm not as tired as i used to be.Let me know if i forgot something.

Tami - July 6

Good afternoon ladies! Hope all is going well for both of you. Shelly I'm glad that you haven't had an attack recently-hopefully I am not jinxing you! Sounds like you have had to give up a lot this pregnancy, but I am sure it is worth it to you! I can understand not wanting to have the surgery during a c-section! I would want to hold my baby too. I am also planning on b___stfeeding as well, so that is also another reason why the surgery wouldn't be too fun! Hopefully you can have just a regular birth and not even have to think about all of that. I always wonder about people when they tell me that they would rather have a c-section than not. Who wants to get cut open? my cousin had a baby in January (her first) and she just scheduled one becuase she didn't want to have to go through labor. Hmm, that is interesting to me! Anyways, enough of my rambling! Just think how soon you are going to get to eat all of that lovely stuff again, plus remember that your son will be healthy as can be as he hasn't been getting all the fats you could otherwise be ingesting in your body! :) That's a new way to look at it right? As for me, I didn't really have to give up much this pregnancy except for when I found out about my gall bladder and before I had it removed! I never smoked or drank alcohol or coffee so that wasn't too hard. My vice was the Dr. Pepper-which I love. I have tried to stop drinking caffeine altogether and I am happy to say that so far I have suceeded! Although when my husband drinks it I am a bit envious! I have to say I am usually not a soda fan, but for some reason sprite has helped my morning sickness (and whatever is going on currently) throughout my whole pregnancy so I am very glad to have that! July 29 sounds like a great date for you to have your baby! It is sooner so you will get to hold him sooner, AND July birthdays are simply the best! :) Can you tell my birthday is this month? I am a month older than my husband so he is teasing me that if our daughter is early I will be older than him on her birth certificate! I told him it better not happen seeing how she would have to be way early! Anyways, hopefully Jesse comes sooner to the 37 week mark than later right? I am glad that you have been able to take your prenatal vitamins and not have any problems. I haven't been able to take any this pregnancy-I throw them up about an hour after I take them, so my doctor has me taking Flinstones Vitamins-great huh? Don't worry, I am definitely taking it easy today. I have contracted a lovely summertime cold-complete with sore throat and all, so my husband tells me I have to stay in bed all day. I am goign to be so bored here at home with not much to do! I did have a question for you. Once you have Jesse how long are you taking off work? I was just wondering. I am taking a year off teaching to be home with Kailey, and after that we will see. Anna, how are you doing today? Are you taking it easy as well? How are your incisions feeling? Hopefully they are healing fast!

When you say attacks... can you describe what is happening? I am trying to figure out exactly what the symptoms are. Are both of you having c-sections because of the gallstones or...?

Tami - July 6

When we say attacks we mean severe pain in our right side, nauseau, vomiting (sometimes), and other symptoms. I myself was jaundiced as well becuase it effects the liver. The pain is in the upper right area-almost right under the ribs. It is higher than where your appendix would be. It is almost a sharp pain. That is an attack, and it can last for a long time, or be pretty quick. It varies with the person. Neither of us are having c-sections becuase of it. I actually already had to have mine out-when I was about 25 weeks pregnant because the complications were severe enough. Shelly is waiting until after she has her baby. I was just saying that if she has to have a c-section maybe they could take it out at the same time! I wouldn't opt for that though. She is having hers out 2 weeks after she gives birth. Anna just had hers out also, I think she is about 20 weeks. It depends on the severity of the case. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Are you experience any of these symptoms or just curious? The pain gets pretty bad sometimes-both Shelly and I have been to the emergency room twice becuase of the pain. Hopefully this helps!

Anna - July 6

Hello, my attacks pre-pregnancy were usually after I ate a meal, I couldn't breathe and broke into sweats and curled up into the fetal position. If you press on your upper right hand side of your stomache you feel some soreness and discomfort. Now that I am pregnant, It was usually nausea and fever above 101 degrees and a lot of soreness on my stomache in the upper right hand part. My doctor said that I should still be able to deliver v____ally if everything goes as well. I had my gallbladder removed using laparoscopic, the laser surgery, and my doctor expects everything to proceed as normal.

Anna - July 6

Tami, I had the same problems with my prenatals the first time around. I would take them before I went to bed so they wouldn't make me throw up that really helped. This time around my doctor prescribed some called Natelle Prefer. You get these through prescription and they are candy coated, so they go down a lot better and you don't have to burp that nasty taste all day, and also they have B-12 vitamin in it that helps with morning sickness and nausea. I understand about the all day nausea, if I don't take my medicine when I feel it coming on I usually end up in the hospital because of dehydration because I throw up non stop. My doctor prescribed the phenergen suppositories for my morning sickness, because my nausea was so bad and I couldn't keep anything down, but now recently I am able to have the pills, which is so much better. LOL

Tami - July 6

Anna-I will have to ask my doctor about those prenatals. They sound nice. The problem with my prenatals was that even when I would take them right before bed, I would wake up a couple hours later and throw them up-nasty. My doctor has prescribed to me Zophran-it is the drug they give chemotherapy patients to combat thier nausea. It is a pill, but it just dissolves on your tongue immediately. It works fast! Otherwise I would be in the hospital every other day getting a lovely IV. That's what was happening earlier in the pregnancy utnil he prescribed that! I am getting tired of the nausea though, aren't you? Hope you are feeling better this week! Shelly, how is everything going with you today? Are you having an enjoyable time at work? I hope so. well, I will talk to you ladies later!

~E~ - July 7

Tami, the reason I asked is because I have been having chest pain and back pain on my right hand side...below the b___st. The pain lasts for hours when it comes. I wouldn't describe the pain I am having as sharp...more of a pressure. I have never been through labor and delivery, but I don't think the pain is THAT bad. Not feeling any vomiting or nausea. I have had it happen a few times in the last couple months....but not too frequently so I didn't worry about it much. The last few days it has been happening more frequently...so it seems to be getting worst. I went to the doctor's yesterday and she thought it was the baby on a nerve... I really don't think so. I am not sure if it is the gallstones you have experienced. Just trying to figure what is causing my pain. I can function during the pain, just have a hard time sitting still and get irritated.

Tami - July 7

E-If you don't think it is the baby, it could be gallstones. I had pain in my back as well. I think it depends on the severity of the attack or where a stone is lodged in a duct that could make the pain different. If the pain gets worse I would ask them specifically about gall bladder disease! Hope this helps! How far along are you?

~E~ - July 7

Tami, I am 30 weeks now. I asked the doctor that I saw yesterday whether it could be gallstones. She said no based on how I described the pain... she also said that IF it was gallstones I would be hunched over and having my knees to my chest. I don't know... the only reason it concerns me is because the pain is not like other pregnancy pain...like lower back pain. I have had lower back pain during the pregnancy that doesn't worry me at all. This upper back pain...the pain feels like it is deep in my chest region not so much on the ribs which is where I hold when in hurts.

Tami - July 7

Hey E-Hopefully its not right? Maybe they will figure it out soon! Hey Anna and SHelly-go to the vent out corner for pregos! It is in general pregnancy questions and I love it! Those ladies crack me up!
