Heartbeat Starting And Stopping On Ultrasound

Hi,
I went for a second ultrasound (first one showed small measurement and slow heartbeat of 100 for 8 weeks) and during the ultrasound we saw the heartbeat starting and stopping, on and off. I guess when it did beat it was about 113 bpm, however I was suppose to be 8w6days. The baby is measuring only 6weeks 3 days. They say my dates could be off, but I am certain. They also say I will likely miscarry because of the heart activity. Has anyone ever heard of this happening -- a heart starting and stopping?
