I had the copper IUD and at least one month I could have sworn that I was pg. I was sick, sore b___sts, peeing more and even had a light period consisting of spotting. It is entirely possible to get pg on the Paraguard Copper IUD, but they do not always tend to stick so to speak.

my sister had a copper iud put in two yrs ago and she came out pregnant the doctor did not take it out because it was difficult to see it but during a regular check up about two weeks before she gave birth, the doc took it out everything went fine she has healthy 1 month old baby boy now .the thing is you have to get your iud checked by your doc at least once a year and check it yourself after every period..then again if its in Gods plans for you to have a baby then remember a child is a blessing...believe i know i have 4.....using contriseptives..lol

DO ANY OF YOU KNOW HOW AN IUD WORKS. AFTER I GOT MARRIED, I DID NOT WANT TO HAVE KIDS RIGHT AWAY, AND THOUGHT THE MIRENA WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA BECAUSE IT LASTS FOR ABOUT 5-7 YEARS. WHAT THE DOCTOR NEVER TOLD ME WAS A WOMAN COULD GET PREGNANT WITH THE IUD, BUT IT ABORTS THE BABY. READING ALL YOUR POSTS, I GUESS HTIS TYPE OF "LEGAL ABORTION" IS NOT SO EFFECTIVE. MY HUSBANDAND I ARE SEPERATED NOW, HE HAS A NEW FAMILY NOW. AND JUST THINK THE KID HE HAS WOULD AND COULD HAVE BEEN MINE, BUT SINCE I CHOSE THE IUD...

My doctor has told me that if you do get pregnant with the IUD in place that the pregnancy would not be affected. He was pretty adament about it when I asked. I would do some research. Everything will be ok.

I have had a Mirena IUD for almost 2 years now and since the beginning haven't had a period. It's been very nice. I was told in the beginning that going without a period was ok and many women experience that. Well, I guess every good thing must come to an end....like a few of you I have been having continuous uncomfortable cramping for the last few days. I am not concerned that I may be pregnant... I just don't feel the signs, but the doctor could not find the IUD in a physical exam. I now have an appointment in a couple days to go find the thing in an ultrasound. I don't feel like it ever left. Im afraid to think where it may have planted itself and what it will take to remove it. I don't have insurance right now and cannot afford a lengthy procedure. Is anyone else experiencing this?

You need to have IUD removed. If the baby does thrive, the IUD can become imbedded into his/her flesh and cause more problems. There is a 50/50 chance of miscarriage, but hopefully you will risk that rather than wait to see what will happen to your baby sharing a crowded uterus with an iud

it seems to me that most of the getting pregnant cases on the Mirena on here are because the string wasnt there...am i right. i wonder how many of these posts the string was actually there and you got pregnant. And it seems more are getting preg with other kinds of IUDS not the Mirena. Also ive read that make sure your doctor is experience in putting in an IUD, so were all these cases put in with an unexperience dr. I dont know im a bit nervous after reading all of this, and hope im not pregnant. My strings are there, so i hope. Also, has anyone addressed finding all these women getting pregnant with the IUD with there drs? i came on here after a few people told me they "had a friend who got pregnant" with an iud.

Wow! I came on line tonight because I too am having morning sickness, and was wondering about other people getting pregant with the Mirena! I see now that it is something that can happen! I had an appointment to get my tubes tied in March and I know I am pregnant after having 2 children! My husband is livid! I would raise them on my own before I abort my baby tho! Wow, I am in shock at all these posts! Glad to know I am not out here alone...

I posted on February 14th about my upcoming ultrasound because the doctor could not find the strings. It turns out all is well. The strings were just cut really short to begin with.... something I wouldn't recommend. I really feel for all of you struggling with pregancies while having an IUD. I plan on having my IUD taken out in the next few months due to all the complications I am hearing about.... plus I am not so sure all the slow release hormones are so good for the body long term. According to my Chiropractor it's hard on your bones and your body. I haven't found any concerns about it on the web anywhere except this site and my Chiropractor. Anybody have any more insight about the slow release hormones?
