Hi, Im new to this chat I have the iud mirena. I have had it for about 7 months. I have read most or the comments on this site and am very shocked at the pregnancy rate. I have a 9 mo old baby girl. I thought this iud would insure my risk of not getting preg anytime soon. How many of you have the mirena and got preggo with it? Is anyone out there?????

Hi All, I am so greatful for this forum. I was wondering if anyone has experienced what I am going through right now. I have the copper IUD since April 2008. I have had the regular heavy bleeding and have had my periods on time since then. It has been within the last two months that I have been on a emotional roller coaster, I have had several pregnancy symptoms but nothing that has lingered other then the fact that I've gained 15 pounds in two months and that I have felt movement??? I know, I'm thinking I'm losing it but I have felt it for sevaral weeks now and it's down in my uterus?? It literally feels like baby movement. I mean this could all just be a fluke, but what really worries me is that on Feb 1st I woke up with this huge pain on my left side, kinda where my ovary is but close to where my bone in my hip is, I was on my period this day. I wound up in the ER and of cousre the DR. did nothing, he just moved my leg around and told me that I probably just pulled a muscle. I was sleeping at 3 am in the morning and woke up with a lot of pain. Anyway what really worries me is that I had been feeling crazy. Like not being about to stand my husband and that is what happened to me with my first. I took a pregnancy test two days later, even though I had just had a period and it was negative. Then last night I was having a melt down and started to try to remember when I had my periods and just back tracked and I realized that I had two periods this month. A week away from eachother. My question is could it be that maybeI was pregnant and miscarried??? I know that you all are not dr.s, in fact I'm making an appt today to get checked out. But has anyone experienced anything like this. Please email me at bonismylastname at yahoo if you have any insight. I will still come and join other conversations. Thank you!

Sniffls32em, when did you have your IUD put in? I live in a very small town, and another woman that had hers put in the same time I did is now 9 weeks pregnant. I had a paraguard copper 7 IUD. My doc thinks there may be a problem and has reported it to the FDA...

Wow I would like to thank all of you, for sharing your experiences on here. I found this website by googling my symptoms and I am very pleased with the responses on here. Although now I am very worried of the outcome of my situation. In October of 2008 I got the Paragaurd Copper T inserted because my body does not do well with horormonal birth control. And I had a condom come off during s_x with out realizing it, and I used the 'day after pill'. Realizing that condoms are risky my womens health doctor suggested the IUD to me which sounded too good to be true! September 4th 2009 was the start of my last period. The last day of my period I had intercourse. Which I think was the 8th. September 12th I experienced a pink discharge whenever I went to the bathroom. After googling that, I had come up with two answers. Implantation bleeding which is when the sperm gets through the egg because sperm can live within a body for days. Or ovulation spotting which should have occured midway through your period, so if it was ovulation spotting, it would have happened around the 18th of sept. And it was only the 12th, 4 days after my period had ended! So I was due for my period on the 2nd and it is only the 5th. I have experienced cold like symptoms today and have suffered from headaches the past few days. I have been extremely tired and I feel as though I am not going to get my period. I am hoping to take a test later on today and I will keep this updated. I thought there was no way in HELL i could be pregnant and was losing my mind. My thoughts are... the 99% effective, does that mean 1 in every 100 users of an IUD get pregnant?

It could be your IUD. Your obgyn should be able to see the threads and determine if they're positioned properly. I experienced similar symptoms when my Paragaurd dropped down- apparently they can slip due to strenuous activities like running. I wasn't pregnant but I did develop a cyst. I have since removed my IUD.

I have taken 3 pregnancy tests today. The first two were the cheap + - signs that appear. The third one was a digital. Which I have one more which I am going to use for my "morning pee". First test result was invalid on the + - one Second test was a positive result with a clear + Third test digital was not pregnant I am going to take the last digital test in the morning and I am still going to follow up with my doctor. I will post the final results tomorrow evening.

Oh yeah, and I don't think I have ever been more confused in my life!

So I woke up this morning and took my 2nd clearblue and easy digital test. That one was the same as my first negative. So I called my Dr. to ask what I should do and she wants me to wait another week before I test which would put me around the 6 week marker if I am pregnant. But while I wait here I stumbled across an interesting fact. Some tests are more sensitive to the hcg. I had taken the 1-step which has 25 mIU/hCG means its more senstive and my two negatives were the clearblue digital which is 50 mIU/hcg... so possibly the clear blue and easy just hasnt detected it yet. So here is my deal. I have had the IUD in for about 2 in a half years. I recently had severe pain in my left side that even shot down my leg. The pain was in my pubic bone. It hurt so bad I callecd the doctors thinking I may be pregnant. This went on for at least 4 days. I went in to see her and she ordered a blood test. I had done pregnancy tests and they were all negative at home. The results came back negative. However three days after the pain stopped I started with severe b___st pain. They hurt so bad I cannot even wear a bra comfortably. I went back in today with HPT still negative. She checked for IUD and said she cannot see the strings to get it out. I wanted it removed. She ordered one more blood test and I swear she thinks I am nuts. Anyonbe else have this happen. I will go int he AM and get another blood test done. Otherwise I am not sure what these symptoms are. I also get nausous at the smell of seafood.

UPDATE!!!!!! Come to find out, I have hyperthyroidism. I was in the ER last night with a high pulse rate and a swollen neck. Any issue with your thyroid can mess up your periods girls. It produces horomone. I have an appointment on Tuesday which I am sure they will take a pregnancy test anyways but I just started spotting a few minutes ago.... if I am pregnant I will repost if I am not, than that will be it folks :-) Thank you all for your comments. It helps everyone out hopefully yourself as well

I had an IUD inserted at my 6 week postnatal checkup, and had it checked 6 weeks after to make sure that it was still in place. I was b___stfeeding, but still got my period regularly, a little heavier, but regular still. Its now been almost 7 months since I've had the IUD inserted, and my last period was kinda weird, slow flow, long, just different for me... and now about 2 weeks after I'm spotting and have brown discharge... I am not due for my period for another 2 weeks. I am afriad that it might be the signs of a pregnancy, which scares me even more because the whole point of the IUD was to have no more unplanned pregnancies (our child wasnt planned... I was on the pill when I got pregnant). Anyone else go through this kind of thing?

LadyBriar1 - October 28

I am scared...i am afraid that my IUD has failed me...not sure why, but i can't find the strings, and i have tender b___sts (bigger too) and frequent urination... my LMP was october 2nd and, because i had the mirena in, i thought i was good to go so go i went!!! multiple times!!! i mean i bled for three weeks (my period started the day i got it in), but there were a couple days in there where i wasn't bleeding so my bf and i went at it ALOT!!! and now this is happening... maybe i should tell you, i have a 3 month old little girl who is perfect, and i am not sure how to take care of 2 that young!!! I really hope i can get some advice, and i will keep everyone updated...my dr is also less than helpful, so i feel like i am on my own...thank you for reading this...

I'm glad I found this thread. I've had my IUD four months. I chose this method because I had one before, for 12 years, and it seemed fail safe. My periods were regular and I didn't think about it until it started to hurt, and then I had it removed. The search for a new birth control was problematic. Ring, pills, too many emotional side effects. Barrier methods thoroughly unappealing. I accidentally became pregnant shortly after I turned 40. I'd always wanted a family, but never found a mate suitable for fatherhood and absolutely never wanted to be a single mom. My boyfriend and I were devastated, and after lengthy discussions and some professional counseling, opted to terminate the pregnancy by aspiration (an early pregnancy abortion method largely unavailable in the US). We were relieved at first, and I constantly insist that we made the right decision: we're too old (he's 50), I have no health insurance, we're both freelancers with unreliable incomes, and we live in Brooklyn (though not under the same roof), where neither of us can imagine raising children (though plenty of people do. In fact, my neighborhood is well-stocked with middle-aged parents of very young children). But I can't get over it. I am tormented most of the time. I still think it would be very, very difficult for me to have a child, but keep wondering, now what? What do I do for the rest of my life? So, here I am, nearly a week late (I was very, very regular). No physical symptoms, but a great deal of agitation like I felt when I was pregnant. This week I really spiraled emotionally. Feels like PMS? The awful feelings subsided yesterday, not with the arrival of my period, but with an afternoon spent babysitting for a 13-month old whose parents I have the pleasure to know. I'm afraid to take a test. What if it's positive? The threads are still in place. What if it's negative? I talked to my Mom about it, she said, oh for goodness sake, you have an IUD-- you have plenty of things to worry about in your life but pregnancy isn't one of them. And now I stumble across this board. How many of the nearly 700 people who posted here turned out to have conceived with IUDs in place? What is the actual failure rate?
