IUD Pregnancy

Leslie- from what I understand all IUDs thin out the lining of your uterus. I have the mirena IUD. It varies from person to person how long everything returns to normal. My doc told me I'll need to use some form of BC right away after I get mine out because I could get pregnant right away. We don't want to get pregnant right now and I'll have to wait 2 weeks after surgery to have s_x to prevent infection. I'm having my IUD out surgically (due to mising strings)because of bothersome symptoms and complications. I have heard of women getting pregnant less than a month after removal and for others it takes awhile. I hope you can get pregnant soon. I don't think there is a real golden wait period. good luck

I AM IN THE SAME SITUATION, I JUST FOUND OUT THAT I AM 6 WEEKS PREGNANT, AND HAD THE COPPER IUD IN FOR 9 1/2 YEARS,THE DR. RECOMENDS TO TAKE OUT, THERE IS A 75 % OF MISCARRIAGE,WHICH I DONT LIKE,ANY IDEAS ABOUT LEAVING IT IN ,I KNOW IS VERY DANGEROUS IF YOU CONTINUE THE PREGNANCY WITH THE IUD IN,BUT I DONT LIKE THE IDEA OF HAVING A MISCARRIAGE,THIS WILL BE MY THIRD CHILD IF ,

I have the copper IUD and I missed my menstrual in August so I went and got a pregnancy test. When it came back positive I wanted to know what the h*** was going on! I am turning 28 with 3 kids, and thought that this was the best option for me and my boyfriend, who doesn't have any children. Now this d__n thing is stuck on the opposite side of my uterus and they can't get it out. So they say 1-2% failure rate? I feel like I should have came here BEFORE I chose this option.

Hi Kary Its up to you if you want to continue the pg with the iud in.I have the mirena iud in & am pg I was told mine had moved to the top of my cervix & if they took it out it was 99% that I would lose the baby so they gave me the option to remove it & lose the baby or keep it in & hope all goes well.I've kept it in as I was told there was no evidence of it affecting the baby (this was before i found this site) I am now 27wks pg, due Dec 9, everything is ok so far although i'm changing drs as i wasn't happy with the last one, this is my 4th pg & 5th baby(last pg was twins) so far this pg has been different than the other ones, i'm more tired, i get regular lower severe abdo pain, am told its normal unless i bleed which thankfully i haven't, i've also carried this baby very low the whole time. My u/s shows the baby is fine & the iud has moved to the side now. If you continue with the pg you are at risk of infection, miscarriage & premature labour. So you need to think if you have the iud taken out you may or may not lose the baby if you keep it in you have the other risks to consider. It may be how your body will cope with the iud in.I did read one lady lost her baby at about 18wks because the iud pierced the placenta. My pg has been ok though & i have heard women have carried to full term & delivered healthy babys with the iud also coming out.If you do continue the pg make sure your dr knows about iud pgs & that they are high risk & need to be closely monitered.Good luck with your decision we are all here for you.

Hey all! I have a Mirena IUD which I have had since June 2004. Over the last 7 weeks I have started having some of the symptoms you all have, bloating, headaches, fatique, nausea and no period. I went to the gyn and a blood preg test and many urine ones were all neg. He thinks it may be an ovarian cyst(which Mirena causes). I am scheduled for an ultrasound on 9/20/05 and will let you know. It could be the prob for those of you with neg preg tests.

I just wanted to state that from everything I have read, the IUD DOESN'T prevent pregnancy ONLY implantation...according to the literature. Obviously that isn't true either. I just had my copper IUD removed after having it for 2 1/2 years. I was tired of spotting in the middle of my cycle and the symptoms of pregnancy all the time only to end up getting my period after all. I think the fact that you can get pregnant sends a lot of our hormones into orbit and throws all of our cycles out of kilter. I decided to have the IUD because I DIDN'T want to deal with hormones anymore - I had the Norplant, Depo, the Pill (that was the worst!) and I was sick of hormones and thought the IUD was the perfect solution. I think it caused just as many problems and I started having serious fears of getting pregnant with that thing in. So....I had it out 5 days ago and now I am 3 days late. I am thinking this is just because of the changes my body is feeling from having the foriegn object removed. Any other ideas? Anyone had something similar happen?

Tara - September 12

Angela - I hope your surgery goes well. I had my out on the 9th with no complications! yeah! I saw your post later that said you could get pregnant right away after having it removed...I read somewhere that it's even advisable not to have s_x 2-4 days BEFORE having it removed because sperm can survive that long and if you happen to ovulate right away you could get pregnant...Timing would have to be perfect but still possible...I didn't take any chances!! Have 3 kids already and they are all under the age of 3!

Hey girls yeah I know its been awhile.. I am sick as a dog and let me tell you.. I started my period sunday. Well I am a heavy bleeder anyway. But this period is so heavy and the clots are huge. This morning I wake up at 5 and have the urge to go pee and raise up and I could just feel blood gushing and I stood up and blood just ran down my legs. I was freaked but cleaned up and went back to bed. I have a app. this evening at 2:50 to see the gyn .. I really dont want to go anywhere I am bleeding so bad. I have never bled like that before it scares me because I am afraid theres something bad wrong.

Angela - September 13

Holly, I am so sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. you've been through an awful lot in the past year. I never bled that badly, even after childbirth(post stiches) so I have no idea what thats like. Hang in there ok and let us know how you are doing. I won't be online for the next couple of days. I'll log in after I've had some time to recover from surgery. I don't anticipate a long recovery maybe 24-48 hours. take care, I'll be thinking about you.

I AM HAVING ALOTS OF MIXED EMOTIONS RIGHT NOW, BUT AT LEAST MY MENTAL STATE IS BETTER THAN IT WAS OVER THE WEEKEND. I AM ANXIOUS ABOUT GETTING THE IUD REMOVED. THE STRINGS WERE SO SHORT THEY COULDN'T GET IT AND NOW I HAVE TO HAVE AN US. I WILL KEEP YOU ALL POSTED.

I am reading this from England and can not believe all the trauma and worry that a piece of copper with hormones inplanted in it could cause. It seems to me that the powers that be dont give a monkeys about the failure rate of the coil. In England the drs get a payment from every IUD they fit so its no wonder they are keen to fit them. I got pregnant on a copper IUD many many years ago and had a termination for other reasons. Didnt realise until reading this website the horrors that getting pregnant with a coil in place can bring. I had another one fitted after the birth of my 2nd child and only when it was fitted did they tell me it was a mirena coil. I suffered from post natal depression so was not pleased from the mood swing point of view, however gave it a go. I was ok probably for the first year but now have horrible side effects, thinking half the time I am pregnant because it mimicks most of the symptoms. Did a PDT today because was convinced I was but it has turned out negative, thank god, but I have also rang my Dr to get the darn thing out next week because the risks out weigh the benefits by a mile. Id rather get pregnant for real than risk the trauma of the horrendous implications that could be caused by this device. I am so sorry for all the ladies who have gone down the road of miscarriage and for those who are still pregnant. Your life must be so stressful. I wish you all luck and God bless you. Thank goodness for this website cos I could have been in your shoes too.

Hi everyone, just letting you that I got through my surgery without any anxiety issues or physical complications. It was a really good thing I got the bugger out. It was high in my uterus, upsidedown and sitting at a funny angle. this put me at high risk for getting pregnant. I am so happy and relieved that this is over with. At least now, when I get pregnant I know everything will be ok. My IUD was not embedded which was a really good thing. Anyway I am doing well. thanks for all your support. I'm not sure how often I'll post but if anyone needs to get ahold of me just email me kitara_qel@yahoo.com

Holly - September 15

Angela I am glad to hear you are doing good. Have a good recovery.. Keep us updated
