Beth - December 2

I have had a Mirena IUD for 2 months now (I currently have a 3 month old, 1yr old, and a 3 yr old) and I'm b___stfeeding, which brings the absence of a period. In the past 2 days I've had that "feeling" but took a preg test and it was negative but I am still not convinced. So, I'm wondering, is there an increased risk of pregnancy while a person is b___stfeeding? If not, then is it normal to be feeling sickly the first few months after IUD insertion? My husband and I have only had s_x 1 time since I've had the IUD and I'm getting quite paranoid. Thanks for reading and any help would be greatly appreciated!

Beth-I have had the Mirena IUD since 3 wks. after giving birth to my daughter in December of '04. I had lots of cramping the first couple months I had the IUD, I b___st fed until June. I was feeling pretty good. Then I had two heavy cycles and ended up with an ovarian cyst that burst. Now here for the last 7 weeks, I have all the telltale signs of pregnancy, but I'm not pregnant. I think that IUD causes your body to feel like it is pregnant. You may have an ovarian cyst that causes some sicky symptoms. Hope everything turns out ok.

I have had the Paraguard (copper) IUD for 2 years, since the birth of my 3rd child. My period is always on time - 28-30 days. NEVER late. Well, last period was Oct 24th - so I'm officially 10 days late. Neg HPT 2 days ago. Breasts feel very tender, and have felt this was for over a week now. I usually get tender b___sts the few days before my period. I'm 31, so this is too early for menopause. Oh yes, I have been having my hot flashes too. I usually get those pre-period - and also when I'm pregnant. Ironically, I am a labor and delivery nurse. I'm hoping ot convince one of the docs that I work with tomorrow to order me a serum (blood) HCG test tomorrow to find out for sure. Very nervous!!!!!

my girlfriend and I have been together for almost 3 years and she has an IUD. She has had the IUD for over three years and we have been together for just short of three years, she is late and I am wondering if there a possiblity that she could be pregnant, she says she is not but I can not help but wonder. is it possiblile that the IUD failed?

marina - December 5

hi everyone, i've had the mirena iud since may, 05 . I am late about 5 weeks. Didn't worry at first, because i was told (ob/gyn) that my periods would eventually deminish. but after seeing this site, i run and got a hpt, was negative with a faint positive line. i am very afraid now. i have 3 beautiful children, and my husband and i thought we were done. I'll make an appt. as soon as possible for preg. test at the doctors' office, will let u know of results soon.

Most IUD pregnancies that happen within the first year. Most of thoes happen with in the first three months.Just like if you get your tubes cut and tied it is good to be on the safe side and use a second form of birth control for at least 3 months if not a year.I had got the depo shot at my six week check up then my IUD out in.I havn't had a period in 31/2 years.

Hi Lori. My sister was born 31 years ago with an IUD in her hand. After reading many of these posts it appears that there have been many healthy, successful pregnancies with IUDs still implanted. Keep researching and posing questions. You are the best advocate for you and your baby. After reading many of these posts it struck me that a lot of women getting pregnant with an IUD appear to be in their early 20's or late teens. While not everyone gave their age, could it be that IUDs are less effective in younger women? Just a thought. I myself have been fortunate so far with the IUD. My 1st pregnancy, at 26, was due to a birth control pill failure. I then had an IUD in place for 4 years. I had it removed because my husband and I were thinking about a second child. We still weren't sure so we used contraception, the sponge, and lo and behold conceived our second with the sponge. I then used a diaphragm, yet 1 year after our second child, I was pregnant with our third. I then went back to an IUD (paraguard). My third child is 2 1/2 and I've been happy so far with the IUD. I do have heavier periods, yet I like how my hormones are not affected by the Paraguard as they are by the Mirena. (It also appears that there are more Mirena pregnancies on this sight than Paraguard, although the research doesn't support that.) Yet, every once in awhile I do get paranoid right before getting my period thinking I may be preggo. Thus, I'm here on this sight. While the IUD is not 100% effective, for me, it's been the only contraception that hasn't failed me so far. (fingers crossed) I truly think if a pregnancy is meant to be, it will happen despite the obstacles.

lindsayncadence - December 8

Hey ! Im 18 and i have one child named cadence who is 14 months. Ive had my iud for about a year now. I had a period that was on time and not as heavy as normal and then was off a week or so and had another period that was spot_tn for two days and then one day bleeding but it wasnt normal period blood. My hips and stomach are growing buut no real weight gain. A LOT of ppl are telling me i am pregnant and after reading this thread its starting to scare me (i have the copper iud btw) I am gonna take an hpt tomorrow morning. I was planning on gettin my iud taken out anyway i like it but i am always calling off work bc of the cramps and pain i have from it n its not worth it but im thinkin of gettin it out in march when i get my pap done. anyways im getttin anxious if i am pregnant i know i need to know. I personally dont "feel" pregnant but idk my bf thinks i am . I am eating a lot more and am really moody but its also christmas season so it could be stress... idk what do you all think?

ATLANTA - December 11

HI, IVE HAD THE I.U.D. FOR THREE YEARS NOW. I GOT IT RIGHT AFTER I HAD MY ONE AND ONLY DAUGHTER. I AM CURRENTLY FEELING PREGNANT. ITS "FUNNY", I WAS WONDERING IF IT WAS EVEN POSSIBLE FOR ME TO BE PREGNANT OR IF IT WAS ALL IN MY HEAD. BUT NOW I KNOW... GO GET THE TEST.

ATLANTA - December 11

I FORGOT TO ASK, HAS ANYONE EVER HAD ANY SUCCESS GETTING THE I.U.D. REMOVED AND HAVING A FULL TERM PREGNANCY AND A HEALTHY CHILD?

lhicks - December 13

Hi all. I was so happy to find this message board as I'm not sure who to turn to. I've had a Copper T IUD for over 3 years now and just found out yesterday that I am 5 weeks pregnant. My doctor was able to remove the IUD and so far everything seems fine. However, I am 41 years old with 3 children and my husband and I both thought we were finished with our family. Boy is this a shock. I'm still waiting for some other test results to come back but I'm very stressed about having another child at my age and the potential for any complications that may bring. Has anyone on the board had a pregnancy after 40 on an IUD? What was the outcome? Looking for advice/support? -Lori

ep - December 13

I have had an IUD,Mirena since Jan. 2005 after the birth of my 2nd child. Like most of you have said, My periods have basically diminished like my doctor said they would. Lately I have been experiencing alot of pregancy symtoms..nausea, really bad headaches, frequent peeing, and tiredness. I have an appt. next week w/ my doctor. Has anyone else experienced VERY bad headaches..almost daily????

to ep - December 14

I have had the mirena for over three years w/o a period. This happened twice.Hence the reason I found this thread. It could just be a cyst. They are common and often go away on their own but you still should go to a doctor.Their is a slim(vey slim) possiblity that you ovulated and got pregnant. If they happen alot or hurts an IUD may not for you.I suck it up b/c I enjoy not having periods. To each their own.Good luck
