IUD Pregnancy

Hello again... I put in an entry about a week ago. I have since been to the doctor about my IUD and pregnancy. I had been having cramping with no bleeding. It turns out that I am 6 weeks pregnant. My IUD was still there... but the cramping was a sign that my body was trying to expel it. The doctor found it all wadded up at the top of my cervix. She removed it and put me on antibiotics for 2 weeks. I am in an unfortunate situation. I am finishing my 3rd year of my doctorate in pharmacy. We start rotations in May and can be worked up to 60 hours per week. The thought of enduring this pregnant or with a baby brings tears to my eyes. I guess I wonder if this has happened to anyone that considered not keeping the baby. Even though it goes against everything I believe spiritually, I feel that this has to be an option for me. Has anyone else gone through this??

An update... This morning around 10am I tested with a hpt that told you with 2 blue lines if pregnant and 1 blue line if not. The first 2 tests you can kind of see a second blue line if you look closely. I may have been imagining that second blue line.. lol so around 3pm I tested with one EPT test that said NOT PREGNANT and PREGNANT. Well, I got the NOT PREGNANT sign twice, then at 3pm and now at 8pm. I really dont know what to think. A friend of mine says go with the first set of tests with the faint blue second line meaning Im pregnant. If I my period dosent show up this week then I'll test next weekend. It may be too early for the exact result.. dont know though.

I've got a question.. other then the IUD slipping out, coming out, or whateverelse it can do, can the IUD itself just stop working?? Like with the copper IUD's.. can the copper one day stop producing copper and allow a pregnancy? Same with the hormones in the Mirena IUD.. can it one day stop producing hormones thus allowing a pregnancy?

Hi everyone. I have had the Mirena IUD since May 2004. I loved it, especially when I stopped having a period all together. Never had any problems with it until the last few weeks. To start, I can't feel my strings anymore, which I have felt them before. I have been moody, tired, and nausea for two weeks now. I did take a hpt today, but it was negative. I made an appt. with my OB, but can't get in for 3 weeks. I think I should go to my family doctor and get checked out. I don't want to be pregnant, but if i am I want to do everything I can for the baby. I haven't felt like this since I was pregnant with my son, he is 21 months. Hubby says my moodiness is pretty bad, lol. Reading ur responses really have helped. From some information I haver read, it makes it sound like if you get pregnant with an IUD it is a miracle. Guess they just care about promoting their product. Going to see if I can get in with the my family dr. tommorrow. Since I don't have a period, I have no idea when a hpt would show positive. Does anyone know if the hormones in Mirena can affect the result of a hpt? thanks everyone so much for sharing your stories. Will let u know what happens.

I have the 10 yr Copper T IUD and it has been inserted for approx. 6 mo. I can barely feel the string when I last checked. My problem is my period is almost 2 WEEKS LATE, I took 3 PT all negative and one blood test today at my gyn. which was also negative; however I have NEVER in my life missed a period and they come like clockwork. Especially with the Copper T, I would have severe PMS 1-2 weeks prior to my actual period. But this month, I have not experienced ANY PMS OR BLEEDING. My question is, has anyone ever had a pregnancy blood test come back negative but found out later they were actually pregnant with an IUD (is this even possible)? When should I do another blood test in a few weeks? I have no idea what to do, please help.

Cxavier312.. Im in the same boat you are. I've taken 6 HPT's in the past few days and they have all came out negative, except the first one and the 2nd line telling me I was pregnant was so faint that Im now thinking Im imagining it. I was wondering the same thing.. if the hormones in the IUD mess up the real responses but in my case I have a copper IUD. Im also wondering if the IUD both hormones and copper can stop working all of sudden thus causing pregnancy. Good luck to you and keep us posted.

i've had aparaguard iud for 7 years. I have loved it till we recently discovered that it could be what is causing all my problems (cramping, irregular periods, horrible pain in stomach)sometimes your body becomes allergic to the copper in it. It took 7 years for mine to. I got it taken out today. I hope it takes all the pain away. if not then i don't know. It was always wonderful for preventing pregnancy.

Hi everyone who is asking can the Mirena coil make you have NEG HPT, from my experience NO they cant, iv got my Mirena coil til fitted i never had periods for 2mths and then suddenly bad bleeding coming from no where i had all the preg syptoms took the test when i was bleeding vry bad it came bk BFP i was shocked i have a 2yr old son and a nearly 10mths old son and im now 16+1 pregnant i had a scan were they found out i was 10wks gone told i would miscarry but Beanie is til there fighting il find out on the 1st Feb if my baby could b born early we are hoping the placenta has formed around the coil if not baby could arrive anytime, my best bet is to do pregnancy tests again if til NEG go doctors and ask for a blood test, they are 100% accurate if you been told from a blood test your NOT preg then your are defo not preg i aint heard of any1 having a neg blood test then coming bk pos never in my life but then again i could b wrong, if your not pregnant and the coil keep giving you these syptoms my best bet is that the Mirean coil is not suited for you and would urge you to have it removed and try other precautions Hope all goes well

Hi Gemma, I'm exactly in the same situation like you...I too have 2 Children, now 16wks pregnant with the Cop.IUD. . At the beginning the pr, I've had bleeding. Now I feel really god, I'm not bleeding anymore and the Dr.told me,that everything looks OK! But now I'm thinking about what you have written, that the baby could be born earlier...? Can you tell me more about this theme? Thank you and God bless you!

Gemma - January 2

Hi Eti I dont know were you are from but im from England so my Healthcare is not really that good NHS lol but i went to see my consaltant a few wks back and he told me the hospital hasnt dealed with many Coil pregnancys he said il could have a pre-term labour because iv already had 1 premture baby im a carrier of Strep B and because of the coil, if the baby placenta hasnt formed around the coil as the baby gets bigger the Antomic Fluid will bounce of the coil and will eventully burst my waters were the baby will have to be born there and then so my baby could be born anytime in to my pregnancy he said we cant say what wk you could have it anytime but you could go full-term and have a normal pregnancy he just cant say, he ask me and my partner to talk over about a termination but we deicded if the baby come early then least we tried to give him/her a life and we just hope someone is looking down on us and give are baby a chance in life. I dont know what the Copper IUD looks like but the Mirena coil is like a small little Anchar they said the sides of it will eventully burst it but we will see at my 20wk scan, my consaltant said intil my 20wk scan he cant do nothing and wont see me at all intil iv ad the scan then he will see from there, quite bad treatmant really i thought i would be a prioty case because they dont no nothng about coil pregnancys but thats the c___p NHS for ya. I would ask to speak to your consaltant asap or someone who knows somwthing about coil pregnancys, im surprise they havnt told you anything about the coil pregnancy. Plz ask keep me posted

Hi Gemma, thank you for your Answer, I had to use the dictionary to understand it but finally I got it! :-) ( I'm just learning English) I think it was a good decision from you to keep the baby and belive it'll be everythig just fine!! I move with my Family around the Word very often because of my husbands work. My Son was born in Germany, my Daughter in Peru and now we just moved from Florida to Hungary.( I'm originally from Hungary). So, I've called all my Doctors around the Word to ask about IUD pregnancy but nobody told me about the risk of early labour! They told me about the risk of miscarriage in the first three semester and about the higher risk of infection but nothing more. Now that we are already in the 16wks it looks good ,so don't worry and have faith! My Dr. in Florida said, he has seen born babies holding the IUD in their hands and they were fine. I know the Lord is with us and you will be in my prayers.Which part of England are you from?

Shanona - January 2

Lori, I am in the same position as you, I have my IUD in place and I am almost 6 weeks along. However I have the Copper IUD not the Marina. I have a Doc. appt. on Wed. to see if the removal of the IUD is possible (if the position of it allows). I was also informed by the doc that if the IUD is removed there is about a 40% chance of spontaneous miscarriage (I will only have it removed if the baby is in danger. Otherwise, I'm going to hang in there with the IUD in place and hope and pray for the best .... no miscarriage and no problems with the baby. This forum has been a blessing, I had NO IDEA so many pregnancies occurred with both types of IUD's. The information on this forum is better than any I have found on the web so far. Hang in there Lori, you'll be in my prayers and I'll keep you posted on my situation. Take care.

Hi Eti yes i was told when i found out i was pregnant i would lose the baby as i was bleeding that much but it stopped after 3wks, i was also told bout infections thats y they like to take the coil out in early stages of pregnancy there is a chance of miscarriage, the doctors tried to look for my string but the baby has stuck my string up as the coil is so high up in to my womb they just cant reach it that also made me blled as they irrated my cervix but since then no more bleeds. Im from Leicestershire in England, you moved around the world, i also lived in Germany as a child in Hanover my sister and brother were born there as my Dad was in the Army, i know one girl on this board had her baby at 34wks mayb you should all the other threads as people are later on then us Take care x

I put in a comment about two weeks ago. I ended up going to get a home test and it came back negative-but still no period. I tried to look for the strings again, but couldn't feel them. After I checked for my strings, I started spotting, but it wasn't red (it was more brownish) with a couple of cramps, and it only lasted a couple of hours. (I keep getting this stinging sensation also. Like someone is poking a needle in my uterus. It is brief, but it is painful and it keeps coming and going every week or so.) Two days later I started bleeding, but this time it was mixed wth red and brown. And it was very light. Normally, my periods are heavy. The bleeding only lasted two days (my periods are normally 4-5 days). I have an appt on the 9th with my doctor. I wanted to see her earlier, but she was on vacation until then, and I didn't want to see anyone but her.
