IUD Pregnancy

I put in a comment about two weeks ago. I ended up going to get a home test and it came back negative-but still no period. I tried to look for the strings again, but couldn't feel them. After I checked for my strings, I started spotting, but it wasn't red (it was more brownish) with a couple of cramps, and it only lasted a couple of hours. (I keep getting this stinging sensation also. Like someone is poking a needle in my uterus. It is brief, but it is painful and it keeps coming and going every week or so.) Two days later I started bleeding, but this time it was mixed wth red and brown. And it was very light. Normally, my periods are heavy. The bleeding only lasted two days (my periods are normally 4-5 days). I have an appt on the 9th with my doctor. I wanted to see her earlier, but she was on vacation until then, and I didn't want to see anyone but her.

I also have the Mirena IUD (I think?). I havn't been unable to feel the string. I started having nausea and b___st tenderness about a month ago and tested negative. Shortly after this I also started bleeding (red-brownish) but just a__sumed it was my period. Now none of my jeans fit around the waist and hips(which I a__sociated with holiday weight gain). I constantly feel bloated my b___sts are still a little tender and I noticed some discharge from my nipples the other day. I have also had some cramping today and of course fatigue but I have two children that are not sleeping through the night. After reading this sight I will be driving into town this afternoon to buy a hpt.

Question: Can anyone give me some advice? i had the merina coil fitted in march 05 after the birth of my 2nd daughter. Over the past few weeks i have been experiencing lower abdominal pain, my periods havent been the same for the past two months, they came late and only lasted for a couple of days, im now getting tender b___sts, heartburn (which i suffered badly in my last pregnany) and generally feeling c___p & i remember feeling like this before i found out i was pregnant the last time. Has anyone experienced these symptms? Should i be worrying that i could be pregnant again or am i being paranoid? advice would be appreiciated.

Update. I went to a new doc. to have my IUD checked. The string was up inside my cervix. It took her a while to even find it. I told her I had been nausea and moody, but she said the IUD was still there so I wasn't pregnant. I asked for a blood test, but she wouldn't let me have one. She said there was no need. I am still having nausea and just generally feel blah. I am still waiting for my appt. with my doc. Thanks for all ur post, it is comforting to read all ur posts.

Update: I saw my doctor - he said the IUD was still intact. So when I did not get my period other then some light spotting, I went and saw my gyno. The hormone levels came in low for being 8 weeks pregnant. So they did a transv____al ultra sound. The ultra-sound showed a water sack for the baby but not a heart beat or fetus. They gave me some pills to jump start bleeding instead of a D&C as I just had one at the beginning of October with the removal of a cyst. One thing the gyno did tell me is with having an IUD put in it can cause your ovulation to stop for a few monthes and create a false pregnancy but in my case I was and it did not develope properly. All my best to those who are going through the same situation. Leigh

I went to a doctor yesterday for a blood test to see if i am pregnant. When i let my doctor know that i have an iud but thought i was pregnant he told me that while it is somewhat rare it can happen and that he has seen it occansionaly. He explained that it works by making the lining of the womb inflamed, impairing implantation into the lining. Then he let me know that the catch is that there can be pockets that don't become inflamed causing a chance to become pregnant. My question is why wasn't i told this when i was getting facts about my iud and has anyone else heard of this? I was told that this is a great form and it has been since march '05 now i am not very confident. By the way I have the mierena.

My section is for March 8, and i pray time flyes by.. Eti i am so glad you are doing well... well good luck to you ladies..

Eti - January 15

Hi Ethi, yes it's really funny that we have the same name, I've never met anybody before with this name.:-) I was truly glad to hear that you are so far with your pregnancy without any problems! I'm sure, in March you will have a wonderful and haelthy Baby! I would be glad to hear from you more.Take care and keep your faith!

ETHI, I WAS JUST WONDERING WHY YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE A C-SECTION. IS IT BECAUSE OF THE IUD?? MY DOCTOR SAID THAT I SHOULD BE FINE HAVING A VAGINAL DELIVERY. AND MY IUD IS EVEN ATTACHED TO MY UTERUS. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT MY UTERUS TEARING DURING CONTRACTIONS. MY DOCTOR DOESN'T SEEM TO BE CONCERNED THOUGH.

Question: I am so confused right now! What do all of you know about complications with the IUD inplace? I am 91/2 weeks now...go figure I was pregnant when they put it in- never did a test like they should have!!!! Now I just took a home test (entered Nov 28th, missed december period-thought b/c of IUD). Went yesterday to the doctor where they did emergency ultrasounds and confirmed the pregnancy. They see the IUD and went to remove it- can't find the string SURPRISE! It is right at the base of the uterus right in the opening for the cervix...they can not tell if it is imbedded in the lining or not. So now no choice but to leave it in but I really cannot risk infection and all...I have 2 beautiful children one only 4 months...how do I care for them if I get sick...What if something worse happens to me?!?!? They say there is a great risk of miscarriage when removing the IUD so my guess is since they want to do it risk of infection must be much higher than miscarriage. I am also concerned about where the string is...what if it is inside of the uterus and tangles around the baby....plus the IUD is sitting right next to the baby (sac)....I feel like I have no choice but to terminiate to avoid what is most likely to happen in the future!!! PLEASE HELP...I am scheduled in 3 days for D&C please give me as much advice as you can!!!! Also, every one says sue....Do I?!?!? Thank you!!!!

Lavinia - January 16

Unlike you ladies i am not pregnant...but reading all these posts from all of you makes me regret my decision to have the IUD (copper) inserted. Erin....most of these pregnancies with the IUD turned out fine...babies were born healthy...think about that human life in you...unless you are at risk yourself (your health i mean) you should not even think of terminating a human life...you will live with the consequences for the rest of you life.

Amy B - January 16

ERIN, I WAS IN THE SAME BOAT AS YOU AT YOUR STAGE. MY IUD IS ATTACHED TO MY UTERUS AND HAS BEEN THROUGHOUT MY WHOLE PREGNANCY. I AM NOW 26 WEEKS ALONG AND SO FAR JUST NORMAL PREGNANCY SYMPTOMS AND BABY IS GROWING JUST FINE. I AM PLANNING ON HAVING A VAGINAL BIRTH AND I WILL BE HAVING A D & C 6 WEEKS AFTER THE BABY IS BORN. THIS IS GOING TO BE MY 4TH CHILD IN 5 1/2 YEARS. MY 2ND CHILD WAS 5 MOS. OLD WHEN I FOUND OUT I WAS PREGNANT W/MY 3RD TOO. IF I CAN DO IT ANYONE CAN! I WOULD ENCOURAGE YOU TO CONTINUE WITH THE PREGNANCY AND GET A SECOND OPINION. THERE HAVE BEEN PLENTY OF WOMEN ON THIS SITE WHO HAVE HAD SUCCESSFUL PREGNANCY'S AND HEALTHY CHILDREN. I TRUELY BELIVE EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON. HANG IN THERE AND GOOD LUCK IN WHAT EVER YOU CHOOSE TO DO. KEEP ME POSTED!
