Hey, everyone I went to the doctor and took a blood test and it was neg. However, unable to find my IUD. I have an appointment w my doctor Wed. I still have pregga symptom. If I was pregg, I would be 3 weeks. Would this be to early for blood level? Have anyone took a blood test and neg, then in couple of weeks it is postive. I know the feeling of being pregg. I am soooo confused.

I haven't had a chance to read everyone's entries, but I have had the Mirena in place for 12 months and am feeling all of a sudden terrible. Bloating, cramps, off my food, tired and very grumpy. I have 3 kids and am so scared that I don't even want to do a pg test. I did have my period last month, but haven't really been tracking days for the last 12 months as I was so confident of it working. What is everyone's symptoms and what do you think I should do?

I posted January 16th, the day I got my IUD. I wouldn't have gotten it if I had seen this before that day. I bled for a full month after I got my IUD (mirena). The only way I knew what was my period was that the bleeding was red instead of brown. I've never been able to feel the strings and now I'm getting worried. My second period with this torture device is due on the 10th of March. As of now I have no PMS symptoms but lasts night when my boyfriend and I went to dinner I threw up after eating. I already have a 1 year old and I don't know what I'm going to do if I'm pregnant. But I can tell you I'll sue my doctor for telling me how effective the mirena is and then sending me off without checking the position or telling me how to check the strings. Please keep posting ladies. Best wishes.

Heather, Do you have an update for us?
I am in your situation. I have an appointment with OBGYN tomorrow. I will post what happens afterwards. A baby would not be a welcome additon at this point in time, I was using the mirena for a REASON.

After having a quick ultrasound to rule out an ectopic pregnancy, my doc tried to remove the IUD in her office with no luck. Apparently the strings aren't in the cervix; she suspects that the IUD has moved up too high into the uterus for the strings to be seen or felt.
It's been two weeks since I found out I'm pregnant and I have another ultrasound this week to find out is this is even a viable pregnancy (they will be looking for a heartbeat as it wasn't seen in the last one). My doc feels that the best course of action is to hospitalize me and give me meds to dilate the cervix and contract the uterus leading to the expulsion of both baby and IUD.
For those of you who decided to go ahead with the pregnancy with IUD in situ, how did you approach this with your doctor? Were they against letting you go on with the IUD in?

Hey everyone,
I have had the Marina coil in for five years and had it replaced during surger for endometriosis. Since jan 05 until june 05 i was having decap injections which basically put you in to pusado menapause because of endometriosis. In august i started having periods again after an internal exam by my gyne. Over the past five years i have not had one period up until that point because of the coil and i was very happy with that. I took no action when my periods started again in august because i a__sumed it was due to coming of the injections. well, my peiod is now a week late, the coil is still there as i can feel, after a lot of trying, 1 string. i have done to hpt and both negitive, one at two days late and 1 at 4 days late. i called the doctor and he would like me to send in a urine sample and asked me to call him if i get any bleeding, paint or faintness. now im worried. any thoughts on the above. sorry its so all over the place but i guess thats just the way my head is right now! lol

Hello. I just want to give everyone an update of my case. I went back to my doctor who was able to pull the IUD out by the stings. My husband and I have decided to keep the pregnancy and we are now expecting a baby in October. It was a very difficult and stressful week making the call with my husband and I both at wits end. My doctor did tell me before he managed to pull the IUD out that his colleagues had recommended that if it was impossible to remove the IUD to just leave it in and then deliever the baby and coil at the same time. I am very relieved to have the IUD out. My nausea and preg symptoms have gotten much better now that we have made a decision about the baby. I am still outraged that there are so many women getting pregnant with an IUD in place (in my case, properly placed in the uterus). I know my doctor has been very shaken up by this and hopefully, will let his other patients know of my case.

Hi Jenbug im now 26wks pregnant with the Mirena coil till fitted, this is my 3rd child. When i found out i was preg i was 10wks gone they couldnt find my strings to pull it out so it has to stay in, iv had a few complications with this pregnancy regarding bad bleeding & clots but all is going vry well for us at the moe. If you have a Etpic pregnancy u cant continue with the pregnancy as it could kill you both so either way you will have to have the baby took away (my Auntie was put under the mental health act for refusing doctors to remove her etopic twins) If your baby is fine & its not etopic its CHOICE if you want to continue with the pregnany not your doctors its you body they an only advise you NOT tell you, i would suggest if your strings are down that u let the doctors try and remove the coil this can cause miscarriage im afraid, but i was told if your strings are down this is a ladder for infections if your baby gets any infections your body will automically go into early labour leading to miscarriage or death of your unborn child personally if my strings were down i would done this because i would prefer to lose my baby in early wks then later wks not for my sake but for the baby, if your strings cant b seen then i adivse you to keep on with the pregnancy your baby has a better chance of survival with the strings up and not down, you will have scans to see if the placenta has covered the coil if not then it can lead to early labour but thats as your baby gets bigger, mine luckily has covered some of the coil so need for anymore scans jus lots of consaltants appoitments. Some stories are going gr8 on this is site but some unfornatanly end in tears. Hope iv helped you abit take care & good luck xxx

I am surprised how many people are unaware/surprised that there is a possibility of getting pregnant on an IUD. Any birth control method has a failure rate...even vasectomies and tubals - albeit those have lower failure rates. I have the Paragard IUD, which has a failure rate of 0.7 women per 100 women using the method. That is what the 99% effective means...that in one year's time, 0.7 women will get pregnant out of 100 women using that method. That equals out to 7 women per 1000, 70 women per 10,000, 700 per 100000, etc. So if millions of women use the method, hundreds and thousands of women get pregnant every year from the IUD. Also, I had to sign a waiver stating all this information when I got the IUD, and I personally read the information on the website. I got pregnant using a condom, but I'm not going to sue the condome company. ...Now I keep thinking I might be pregnant...I would be upset as obviously I'm trying to avoid getting pregnant, but I am very fertile. But I know the possibility is always there if I am having s_x. I think is is a great birth control option, btw!
