Ok, question for everyone...before you got pg with the Mirena IUD, did your husband complain of the IUD poking him? I am freaking out because this has been going on for weeks and now I am getting early pg symptoms. I will test this weekend, I just don't know how to break the news to hubby. Errr he is soo much against having a third child. I have two wonder girls. Anyhow, the pg symptoms I am having are a very high soft cervix, fatigue, extreem hunger, and bloating. These are not normal symptoms of my normal periods. Any suggestions for me on this situation?

Carrie: My husband always complained that the strings would poke him until recently the past maybe week, week and a half. My cervix is also high. I have nausea, and am fatigued. How do your strings feel to you? Do they feel shorter or longer? My strings feel a lot shorter to me than normal. My period was due to today and it didnt come. Normally I would have broken out and my cervix would be low and the strings would be long.

I honestly don't know when my periods are because they have never been regular. It has only been the last few days the cervix has been really high. As for the poking...I had an IUD right after my second child and I could always feel the string. Long story short I had to remove it because it had become shifted and was hurting really bad. I have only had this one in for a month now. I have never felt the string but I have felt a petruding hard plastic poking thing. I keep putting off going to the doc because I am inbetween insurances at this moment. So yes I am a lot freaked out. I would suggest in your situation to go ahead and test then go to the doc asap. Mine, I may wait a few more days and see if anything changes before testing.

If you can feel the IUD protruding that means that it has expulsed and is not in place. You need to have it removed ASAP. And there is a strong possibility that you are pregnant.

Holy COW!! I've been reading all of these testimonials and am freaking out. I have not checked my IUD strings in like 4 months, until yesterday. Yup, ya'll guess right, can't find them - AT ALL, and tried every which way position. Even felt into my cervix and nothing was coming out of it. Called the DR and they have me coming in Monday to find out whats happening. I do feel pregnant, I'm exhausted, I'm extra hungry, moody, etc., etc. But negative hpt. But, I too had taken an EPT and it had a small skip in the line where the positive sign was supposed to be. I'm waiting until Monday to find out, but I'm really concerned right. I'm glad I found this site b/c I researched it about 8 wks ago pregnancy and IUD and didn't find anything. Just by luck I get this site. What an eye opener! I'll keep you ladies posted. Ready and willing to listen for ANY suggestions.

So here's the news so far. Went to the DR yesterday afternoon, and they too confirmed that IUD was indeed not there. They are still not sure if it is up inside my uterus or if it fell out w/out me knowing it. Took a hpt at the Dr's office, which, again, was negative, but DR said that there is a chance that I could be pregnant still. I got blood work done today, will find out tomorrow afternoon if I'm pregnant. I get an ultrasound the day after 4th of JULY to locate 'malfunctioned IUD'. Anyhow, I'll keep my postings up. Funny thing was - the DR said herself that she's NEVER seen an IUD malfunction, nor an IUD pregnancy - isn't that the same story we all have here? This is unbelievable to me. I'm wondering if we all can get together and sue these IUD b___t-heads (j/k). If my blood work confirms a pregnancy I guess I just got my question answered as to whether or not to have a 3rd baby or not.

HI Lori. I have a similar situation. I"m 7 weeks pregnant with mirena, IUD still intact and where it should be. An ultrasound was done and they are removing it tomorrow. 50 % chance I"ll miscarry after they remove it. I wanted to leave it in because I did not want to miscarry this baby but doc said it can cause infection. If they can't find your IUD I have read that if they monitor you closely you should deliver a healthy baby. I have four children with my husband and this will be my fifth. I was done as well but when you have a little baby growing inside you, it does change your mind about things.
Good luck and keep me updated.

My blood work came back as negative for being pregnant, which is a HUGE sigh of relief. Lisa, I hope your removal goes well tomorrow w/no miscarriage. If you need someone to talk to - I'm your lady. I find out next Wednesday where exactly the IUD is...I'm beginning to think it might be embedded into my uterus OR it actually could have come out. Who knows. But I do know for sure that I will NEVER get another IUD again. I think I'm going to have to go on the pill until we decide to make a more permanent decision. I have two small boys, couldn't imagine having anymore at this point.

I am so happy I found this site. I've been searching every where for info about pregnancy and iud. I had my iud inserted on Jan. 10th 2006, i have no kids and got it because I'm a college student who really isn't ready to have a baby. First couple of months went by ok... long periods, cramping the normal, but in April my period just stop still not worried because my doc said that would happen. May comes and my b___st start to get sore almost ever day... doc also said that was normal. But I got alittle worried so I took a home pregnancy test (negative). Now in June my period still hasn't showed up, my b___st still get sore ever day but now they are even swollen, I've been getting real nauseous every day mostly right before or right after I eat, and the last week i have no energy. I sleep a good 8 hours sometimes more and I still can't even get through the day. I called my doctor and she said not to worry about it and to give it one more month. I so confused i don't know what to do... Thank for any advice you have at this point I'm truly lost

Have you tried testing again. I think you need to take another test.
Have you checked the strings?

I was planning on taking another test this weekend because I have it off. I still can fill the string... Its about a little more than finger tip. But it does sound like I'm pregnant right?

I found this message board a few days ago. I had trouble loging on the first few times. I have a copper IUD and I have had it for about four years. I had an appointment schedualed in August to have it removed so could start trying for a baby. I found out Monday that I am pegnant already and thje IUD is still in! I was shocked. This will be my boyfriend's first and my third child. My boys are the ages of 13 and 14. I was excited about the pregnany at first becuase we were going to start trying to get pregnant anyways. The OBGYN tried to remove the IUD on the same day I found out that I was pregnant and broke the strings twice. She decided to do an ultrasound and then try again the very next day. I was only 5 days late for my period when we did the u/s and they could not find the sac antwhere. The IUD was at an angle partually into my cervix. The docter tried to remove it again with only about a querter of an inch of string to work with. Shje tried for about 15 monutes and it moved a little and then the rest of the string broke off. I then did the two blood tests two days apart to see if it was a tubal pregnancy and the hormon levels indicated the my pregnancy is progressing normaly, thank god. I now have another ultasound schedualed for this fri morning the 7th. The doctor said we will dicuss the surgical removal of the IUD then. I am sooooo scared! I want this baby. Do I let the docter try to romove the IUD again? should I leave it in? The bottom of the IUD is stuck into the tissue on the inside of my cervix and it pokes me like a needle at times. I have been bleeding or spotting a bright red blood when I work more than an eight hour day or if I excersise/walk to long. I pray every night and I have slept with a rosery in my hand on the nights that I am bleeding. The info. on the board has been helpful. I like to hear about the success stories to give me hope. I can't wait to see where the baby is compared to the IUD. I guess that info. will help my decision as to remove the IUD or not.

Vickey T, I hope and pray your unborn is healthy and thriving. I like to read all of these happenings. Even though I am not pregnant, I had quite a pregnancy scare this past week (read a few comments above and you will see what has been happening w/me). I go for an U/S to find out exactly where my IUD is located and am hoping that I just naturally expelled it. As of November it would have been 2 years of having the IUD. I'm really scared that they are going to find it way, way up in my uterus or fallopian tubes. Please keep me updated as you progress through the coming weeks. I try to check the board once every couple of days.

Hello. I am just found this site today after experiencing pregnancy symptoms. I had the Mirena fitted July 05 and have kept telling myself that it must be my mind playing tricks on me since I have had pregnancy on my mind allot lately because my hubby and I planned on having it removed in 4 wks time to start trying for our 2nd child. But I am worried that I may be pregnant already with the Marina still in. I am gonna do a hpt first thing tomorrow morning. I'll let you know what happens.

Just to update everyone,I am now 29 weeks pregnant with the mirena iud still in place. I am not having any problems at the moment, although I did have lots of on off bleeding up until @ 14 weeks. My advise to the other pregnant ladies with mirena in - do not let the doc remove, I have read and discussed with midwives ect. that it is best left in place if you want to have a successful pregnancy. Good luck to everyone else.

My period is 2 weeks late I guess I dont really feel pregnant, I have had a slight pink discharge for a few seconds 1 or 2 days in the last 2 weeks. I have taken a HPT and it came back negit_tve ( i had to take 3 before i got a positive result with my son) I didnt know there were so many women who have gotten pregnant on the IUD so I am getting nervous - the only time I have missed a period is when I was pregnant. Ant advice or anyone going through the same thing. I dont have insurance so I dont want to spend the $ if its not necessary
