So I have had the Mirena for a year now. I have TROUBLE with it from day 1. I bled for the first 5 months. Now I have to deal with light 15 day periods each month. When I am not bleeding I still fell bloated, fatigued, had light spotting and slightly crampy. This has been a very bad year. But this last 2 weeks has been the worst. I have been on an emotional roller coater from hell. Everything irritates me, I almost cry for no reason and I don't fell like letting my husband touch me. I have also been getting slightly dizzy. I can't take much more. I won't know if I have missed my period until the 15th. But I have not had the usual mid menstrual bleeding I normally do. I am so tired that have been taking naps during the day. The worst is the mood swings. I am normally such a laid back person. I hope I am not pregnant. But nonetheless I think I will be removing the IUD weather I am or not. I think a year is long enough to tell if this is going to work. And it is not working.

Earlier this summer, I too was unable to find my strings/thought I was pregnant. Went to the DR and found that I wasn't preggers & that I had a "complex ovarian cyst" which ended up bursting and being no trouble, BUT I too am still having problems w/Mirena. Again, unable to feel the strings, tender b___sts, bloating, irritable, I want to get it taken out, but DR discourages me - & I do not want to go back on the pill & wait for another 30 days for it to take effect. Very frustrating, but nevertheless my DR said that the chances of getting pregnant w/the IUD is about the same for a woman to get preggers being on the pill/patch/shot...not sure if I believe him. I definitely tell my friends NOT to get this thing - the bleeding thing is getting really old - me who just had monthly periods b/4 and after my kids, now have two monthly periods - I may get a two week break in between. My thoughts are all with you ladies who are pregnant and/or think that you are pregnant due to this IUD stuff.

I had a Mirena IUD installed in September 2003. Yesterday I tested positive for pregnancy with a home test, and for sure feel like I am! This would be our third child, I am calculating that I would be about 7 weeks. I talked to a midwife and am supposed to go in tomorrow for an ultra sound. I am elated about the pregnancy, but very nervous because of the risks involved. I was up at 4 this morning reading all of the posts here. I wish this forum was better organized!

I had my Mirena put in May of 2006 and tomorrow October 9th I am having it taken out. My last period was July 26th, I have acne all over , my face back and scalp. The mood swings are terrible. I am not sure if I am pregnant but I do have bad cramps the last week and I need to nap during the day. I have three children under the age of 6 and thought we were done having children. After finding this sight I decided to have my IUD taken out. I don't want to risk getting pregnant and going through the emotional turmoil of having an IUD in place. I may find out that I am pregnant tomorrow but I don't think I am I just feel like I am going to get my perid any day but never do. I wish there was a better place to chat about this. MY best to you all. Karen

I found a really good article that outlines the risks a__sociated with pregnancy after an IUD failure at the following link: http://www.cmaj.ca/cgi/eletters/169/6/585 Will post again after my appointment tomorrow! KAREN - Let me know what happens with you. I kept telling myself there was NO WAY I could be preg, but I AM!

I am not pregnant and I had my Mirena removed on Monday. The Dr. said it would take up to 4 weeks to get my period but it seems I am getting it now two days later. I am happy because it has been since July 26 and I have not felt normal. I am hoping the extrta weight comes off now and my skin clears up. The only thing is I do not know what to use for birth control. She gave me Loestrin24 but I am concerned about side affects. Can anyone give me some insight? Karen

Second time this year, first ended in miscarriage at 5 1/2 weeks in February. It is 3 weeks today since the last time we had intercourse (and nothing for several weeks before that as spouse was out of town). Have had my Mirena in for a year and a half. So I'm around the 5 week mark now and not wanting to even go see my doctor yet. She had told me that if I got pregnant again to come see her right away to have the Mirena removed but I'm nervous. I've had miscarriages before and yesterday was the 5th anniversary of a mid-trimester one. I have 4 healthy kids (teens really) and DH and I were planning on maybe trying for a baby in a couple years so this was unexpected. I've not told him yet and am kinda waiting to see what happens over the next couple days. I'm expecting I'll have another miscarriage and trying not to get attached to the idea of being pregnant :(

I have also been having pregnancy symptoms for about the last week. I have had my Mirena IUD for about 18 months and have not had any problems until now. I had some spotting about two weeks ago around the time of my monthly period but it only lasted about two days and was barely anything to even notice. After that, my b___sts got very sore again and now it hurts to walk because of the soreness. I have lower back pain, extreme fatigue, indigestion, moodiness, nausea, and my lower abdomen is very sore and seems hard right in the middle. I took a test on monday and it came back negative and I plan on taking one again tomorrow morning. I feel pregnant, just like I did with my son who is now 2. But the doc and nurses and even people around me think I am nuts and just dismiss it because oh you cannot get pregnant with an IUD! I am so frustrated! and just want to cry sometimes! Even if I am not pregnant, after reading all these posts I think I may still want my IUD taken out. I would rather take a pill everyday then for this thing to make me feel this way! Has anyone had a negative HPT and still been pregnant with the IUD? any other advice is greatly welcomed. I will keep you posted!! My prayers go out to everyone having comlications and God Bless!

I hope you get the result you want. I can now hardly even let my b___bs brush against anything, they are fuller and firmer especially around the nipples. I shouldn't be having that just because I have an IUD. When I had my pregnancy and then miscarriage in February with Mirena I also had negative tests and a doctor who was sure it couldn't happen.

Hi i am from Ireland. i have had the same Marina in for just over 5 years. in that time i only had periods for the first year. i had the first real period again about 2 months ago. i have now started to feel sick and light headed. i did feel pregnant about 3 months ago and did a test which was neg. wht do you think?? does the Marina stop working after 5 years? anyone any ideas?

Laurabb4 - October 17

The Mirena is only good for 5 years. You have to have a new one placed. Check with your doctor.

I have been reading this site for two days now thinking, "I couldn't really be pregnant could I?" I am now eight days late and feeling sick, bloated, and my skin (usually very clear) is all broken out. I got my Paragard IUD in April 2006, six weeks after my second son was born. Although a little sudden, I would be thrilled if it were true. However, I have tested negative the last two days. Is it common to get a false negative with the Paragard IUD? If not, what else could it be?

I had the mirena placed in Aug 06. Have not had a period since. The last week I have been having pg symptoms. I started having sharp cramps yesterday and I checked my strings this morning and my cervix has moved up and changed. I couldn't find the strings. I saw my Dr. this afternoon and she couldn't find the strings either. U/S showed the IUD still in the uterus and there was no sign of cysts or sacs. I took a hpt and it was neg. My Dr. is baffled and not sure what to so next. She said this has never happened to her before. I;m not sure what is going on. Could I still be early pg and they just can't tell yet? I did not have the blood test. I think she will do that next time if nothing changes.

I am also pregnant with the IUD in place. I am already 16 weeks pregnant (didn't know by the way) and nothing has happend so far. The doctor put the iud in my cervix though when I was already 5 weeks pregnant (she never tested me-bad judgement?) The doctors I was referred to say I should remove it ASAP. I Am scared because what if it harms the baby? But if I leave it.. its a major risk of infection, miscarriage as well, preterm delivery, hysterectomy and even death. What should I do?? I am freaked out. I have heard though many woman have had their babies with the IUDs in...??

yes well i have the mirena in for about 6 month and i iam now 5 days late. iam never late and that to me is a sign of pregnancy. i have had no problems with the iud exce[t that it made my periods longer it slowed the flow down which was great but instead of only three day periods i now have 7 day one. well i was suppose to get it on the 17 of nov but it still hasn't come. i called my doctor and they said to wait until next week to see if it may just be stress and that it might show up. i never get any symptoms with a pregnancy expect being tired and i have been unsually tired falling asleep at work. my periods are always then same day every month. the mirena also is suppose to stop periods but not until a year of it being in you. mine has only been about 6 months. my soctor thinks that my periods might have stopped they just want to wait another week and see. i just don't know but i don't feel right. i have three children now and can't afford another but whatever happen, happens. i will find out in a week. this 99% is turning out to be less.
