IUD Pregnancy

So, at least what I'm getting from this, when we feel pregnant, we probably are...and yet we bring this up w/the DR and they tell us its in our head and is virtually "impossible." I'm actually sitting here and contemplating how many times I've felt pregnant in the past 2 yr since I've had this thing and wonder if those were the times I was and it just died. It is so hard to think about that b/c I had a miscarriage over 3 years ago and I was 10 wks pregnant and I was tore up from it - I did get pregnant and had a healthy pregnancy after, but that really kind of upsets me that there is a potential that this could be happening.

well that is why doctors have changed thier defintion of a pregnancy after they had come out with the iud and the pill and the shot so that they would protect themselfs and not have to tell you the real way the iud works. in an article i read that the iud kills off 7 to 12 million children a year from 17 million women using the iud. that is sad to think. that came from prolife america website. i just recently missed a period and felt pregnant and i asked the doctor and he said you are fine you are not pregnant and then i asked for a blood test and he said yes to it but didn't schedule until a week later and by then it was negitive and i started bleeding the next day very wierdly but doctor said it was nothing to worry about and brushed it off. then i found out from a pamphlet called couple to coulpe league. it is a hard truth. you all do as you belive.

I am looking for some advice. I have had my mirena iud since June 05 and didn't have periods for almost the first year. Since then I have had regular but light periods. I am now 10 days late and feeling nervous. I took a htp this morning and it was negative. Should I worry about it being a false neg?

I had my iud put in 5 and a half months ago. I've had spotting ever since and now I feel totally pregnant. I've taken 3 home preg tests and they're all negative. Has anyone ever been in this situation and had it turn out that they were pregnant? I also have REALLY bad indigestion (my major complaint with my last pregnancy). Does anyone know what else these symptoms could be from??

I have the same prob. I've felt pregnant for a few months, with FOUR negative tests. I think this is a side affect that they do not tell you about! I've had the burping, the heartburn, sore chest, I've even felt what I thought was 'kicking' but in 3 months I think one of FOUR different brands of tests would have said positive. I go to the doc on the 18th, and I'm considering having this IUD taken out, I am spending a fortune on tests AND it's messing with my mind!

Well I finally had a positive test last week. It was very faint pink so I went to the doctor and she gave me one there and it was neg. so I had her take the IUD out. Right after Christmas my stomach popped out and I looked about 4 months and I have had unbelievable heartburn. Got my period yesterday so I am not pregnant but my doctor suggested that my body actually thinks it is pregnant. I have had this happen to me with the needle. Hopefully now that my period is here my body will forget about this. If I was actually pregnant I woulnd't mind but having to put up with all these symptoms for nothing. If you can no longer live with the symptoms it took less than 2 minutes to have it removed in the doctor's office. Good luck to you all

I'm curious: is it the IUD making the boy think that's it's pregnant, or our minds making it think it's pregnant?

My instinct says pregnant but not pregnant enough to test positive and then it is aborted before we can confirm. I had my IUD 18 months before I had the symptoms...never had a problem before...and was not particularly worried about being pregnant either. So, no reason to invent symptoms and it makes absolutely no sense for a device that I've had for that long to start doing crazy stuff and then quit all of a sudden. I had more of a period than I've had in a year and the symptoms stop. Never tested positive, but I KNOW when I'm pregnant, and I was. I strongly believe I miscarried.

lvmommy, what happened? i'm curious, as we had some of the same symptoms.

the iud is not a trick of the mind. the way it works is that it thins the lining of the uterus to make it a bad enviroment for a baby to attach to the wall. the iud dosen't stop you from ovulating or from conceving. if you are s_xually active at the time of ovulation you can get pregnant with it in. the sole job of the ud is that when the egg moves down to the uterus to implant the iud has made the uterus so thin that it kills off the egg so it stops from implanting to the wall. so that is why the test come up negitive because in order for the test to be positive the egg has to be implanted thus you are pregnant becuase the sperm has been implanted in the egg but the iud makes the uterus to thin for the egg to attach. so it kills it that way all the test are negative even if you are pregnant. so for those who have had it for a year just have not been ovulating at the time of s_xual actvity but that one last time you were so you may have been pregnant by your egg was implanted by sperm but when it reach the uterus it was killed due to the hostile enviroment that the iud has made. i hope you all understand this i have a lot of info on it if you want some or i can tell you where to get some if not the just ignore this one.

Has anyone ever felt 'baby kicks' even though their hpt tests say negative?

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew if Mirena IUDs decrease in effectiveness over time. I have never been pregnant - my IUD was inserted during an operation for endometriosis when i was in my early 20s. It will have been in for 5 years this coming April and I have some odd symptoms - very tender b___sts, fatigue, slight nausea. My partner asked me last night if it's possible that I could be pregnant. I'm just having a mini-panic that perhaps the effectiveness of the IUD decreases over time. Any advice gratefully received.

Hi, someone asked a question about indigestion & another about a baby kicking feeling. I too have had the mirena & since the birth of our fourth child on 2/14/2005 have decided to use this as prevention for another baby right now. I have recently (10 days ago) had a hernia surgery ( minor), but have skipped a period ( common I hear with mirena ), but not until this week did I start to have kicking feelings, indigestion, and what feels like braxton hicks... I'm going tomorrow to get a hpt. My hernia was right on my navel so I really dont think the feelings relate at all....I feel like I'm pregnant & I had a surgery & after reading what was here I really want to know~ do the pregnancies ever go to term? does anyone know what the risk to the baby is exactly? ~ Thanks~ Michelle

First of all, the IUD has the lowest failure rate; however, no birth control method is 100%. Secondly, the job of the IUD is not to keep you from getting pregnant, it's there to keep you from staying pregnant. I'd say it's safe to say that from what many of the newest posts discuss, that it's highly possible that you were/are pregnant. Given the nature of the IUD, it's not likely the pregnancy will carry through, though. Rght now, I've had mine in for 11 months, and have had times when I thought I may have been, and I always realized I wasn't, or at least, not for long. As it is now, I am late getting my period, I am slightly crampy, but not period crampy, my b___sts are tender, I have heartburn, and I am very tired all the time. I felt this was my first pregnancy. I also feel this way, from time to time, before I get my period. It should also be said there are are multiple causes to many of those symptoms. Heartburn can be caused by excess belly weight, a pre-existing condition, or stress. Bloating can be too much soduim, not enough water, PMS, over eating. Fatigue could be brought on by stress, depression, illness. Breast tenderness could be caused by polycystic b___st, or too much caffiene intake. Cramping, well, not sur eabout that. I can feel my body ovulating from time to time, and it feels like a menstual cramp, but slightly higher. Other times, it could just be due to the IUD itself, and well and and spotting between periods. The feelings are very similar at times, and think it take a discerning mind to know the difference. If you truely think you are pregnant, I wouldn't keep taking store bought tests. I'd go to the doctor, and get the blood work done. And explain your situation with the IUD. Maybe, over the course of a few days, with a positive result, they send you back for bloodwork, to see if the HGC levels are rising, or dropping. Best of luck to everyone. I hope to those who are pregnant, that it works out who you so desire, and for those aren't, just remember, it really could be anything!

WOW....I am floored at how many people have expeienced this.....and so glad that I found this site. I have had my Mirena IUD since Nov 25, 2005, having it put in 6 months after the birth of my third child. I had previously had an older model IUD, put in after my second child, but had it removed after a year and a half due to the painful and heavy periods. I thought Mirena was the answer for me because my husband and I are very fertile people! Our first was a pill baby, then I miscarried, our second was a condom baby, then I miscarried again, at 19 weeks, and our third was actually planned! LOL But yesterday, I realized that my period was due and I'm NEVER late. So I took an hpt and low and behold, it was a definite positive. I wasn't actually expecting to be pregnant, and I've already made my peace with being done having babies.....this is such a shock! And now, after reading many of the posts here, and finding out how and IUD can really complicate things, I'm scared too. I made an appt. with my DR for tomorrow, and I guess we'll see what happens next. Since I'vealready had two miscarriages that were absolutely horrible experiences, I've learned that if it's meant to be, it will be, but that still doesn't make it any easier to go through. So I can sympathise with any of you who have posted here and lost your babies....I know how you feel, or felt. I know I'm rambling, but it feels so good to vent my feelings, and I'm thinking that if I had a choice between terminating the pregnancy if there were complications, or even the possibility of them, I would, rather than take my chances and wait for another miscarriage. I don't know that I could go through that hell again for the third time. Good luck to everyone out there....and those that have already dealt with this.

I have had a copper IUD in since May 2004. I have loved it, no pills to remember to take, no patches to put on or worry about remembering to change (and I got pregnant on the patch). The last couple of weeks, I have felt "weird". I am tired, peeing all the time, bloated, my b___sts are tender, I just feel like I'm pregnant. I am also about 5 days late for my period. I took a home test today, and it showed up negative, but I just don't know if I believe it...I think it may have been a false positive...and the more I read here, I am thinking that more and more. I am going to go into the doctor on Tuesday and have some blood tests done. We'll see what happens.
