IUD Pregnancy

To "tabithakristine": Do you mean that you feel the plastic where the string is connected? BC you are suppost to feel the string, that's how you check it. Also, did the first one fall out because your body hadn't shrunk down to normal size yet from having your baby? Also, as an update to my earlier post, I went to the doc and they said I was not preggo, and it must have been 'gas' or 'muscle spasms' that cause the kicking. I know that once they told me that (I was dissapointed, btw) and I quit thinking about the 'kicks' then they sorta went away. I don't know if I still have them or not, but if I do I just don't notice them. Hope this helps. :)

Update.....well, I went to the doctor today. I am not pregnant. The doctor actually told me that the purpose of the IUD is to make you feel pregnant. ?!? Kind of confusing isn’t it? They should say things like that upfront. I had made the decision that no matter what I would get the IUD out today and go with another form of birth control. I don't know if I would say that I have felt better right away, but my mind is definitely at ease. In reply to msneon: Yes I felt the string. I know that you are supposed to and that is how you check it, but my IUD had actually moved down my cervix thus making the string come out of my v____a. This time it just hadn't come down as far, but it was moving its way down. Also, my physician wouldn't put the IUD in before my uterus was back to its usual, or as close to normal as possible. But, even it that were the case I don't think it would affect it falling out now. Thank you for your thoughts though. I appreciate the feed back. Also, I asked the doctor about the "Braxton Hicks" feeling and she said that even though the IUD is in place, it may move and shift in your uterus to give you the sensation of a baby kicking. I think the more that you know about it the more that you are able to let the little discomforts go. As for me, I had that personal prompting to opt out of and IUD and know that it was the right decision for me. Have a great night and good luck to you all.

Whoops. I started my own thread, but didn't realize this thread was still going on! I too am having preg symptoms with the Mirena IUD. I tested postive at home for HPT x 3 and then negative at the doctor. My blood test was also negative. But then I got those tests on-line that test as low as 20 hcg and that had a VERY faint positive! I have an ultrasound on Friday and I cannot wait to figure out what the heck is going on. I don't get why the tests I take are positive, but the doctor is negative. I followed all the directions very carefuly and read within the time limit. It could be a UTI (though it's weird that those symptoms could mimic pregnancy!) so I'm on antibiotics for that. I just don't get these postive tests... Anyone else have that problem? I can't remember reading it here, but there were so many I forgot all the situations. :)

I have had the m iud for 3 yrs. I had a 'regular' period, light but noticable, however since jan have been spotting twice a month. anyone else with the same problem???

this may have been answered but this thread is so long i got a headache trying to read it all. i'm just wondering, for those with iud that got pregnant with good or bad outcomes, had you noticed differences with the length of your strings and so forth or was there just no changes whatsoever. its scary to think there could be no warning signs. also, are there warning signs that the iud is not in properly or something, i mean before it results in a high risk pregnancy. i mean, geez i'd have 12 kids before i could ever deal with a misscarriage, it must be heartbreaking. god bless you all, i can't believe i haven't heard this stuff before, i thought paraguard would be the safest b/c out there cause no hormones and supposedly effective...guess not

WOW! The things you learn on google!!! I guess I am heading to the store to buy an hpt!! I got my IUD 2 years ago and have had no problems with it. For the last week now I'm having head achs, fatigue, and well, I look preggo!! I seriously am shocked to see this many women preggo with an IUD!

I thought the Mirena was foolproof too but I just found out I am 9 weeks pregnant. The doctor tried to take out the mirena today and the strings popped off. I am very worried about miscarriage. Right now I have 4 children under the age of 4 (9 month old twins) and I am 2 months pregnant with my 5th child. I hope this baby is born healthy and I don't get sick or anything. I have to keep taking care of my other children. I feel really horrible about choosing the IUD. I don't know if I should look into more ways of removing the IUD or if I should just leave it in place. I can't believe I even have to think about these very high risk options. I regret ever using the IUD. I should have used a different method or if I would have chosen no method at all I wouldn't have to worry about an having an abnormal baby.

I have an IUD in place as well (since Aug. 06) & lately I too have felt pregnant for the last 2 months. I took a test like a week ago and it came back negative. I dont believe it & I'm glad to read that I'm not the only one who's felt like this..... I'm gonna try another hpt soon & maybe talk to my Dr. about it... I have 2 kids (one is 10 months old) & I just dont feel ready to be preggers again. I hope everyone else is doin ok & it's nice to see there are ppl here who can agree with what others are feeling. Thanks for all the info. It'll help me calm down a bit

Hi, I also got pregnant well i had an IUD I am at this time 6 weeks and 2 days pregnant and just got my IUD out today. They didn't want to take it out but either way there can be side affects and if i am going to miscarry I would rather it happen soon rather then later. The didn't have to open my cervix to take it out all they had to do was pull it out so in the case where the opened the cervix I am not sure why they did this. When he went to take it out he said that he would only do it if he could see the string which he had a hard time seeing but did and now it is gone. At this time everything seems fine but only time will tell. I believe that if it is meant to be it will be and everyone who is preganant with an IUD should do what they feel is best for them and there pregnancy

Wow so glad i found this string! I'm going in at the end of this month for an IUD - just had my first baby last November. But I've never had any issues with the pill so I think I'll stick with that for now as I'm no longer b___stfeeding.

well this is how the iud works. it dosen't stop you from ovulating or conceving. if you happen to concive the egg goes to the uterus to implant but when it gets there the iuds job it is get rid of it. now for those of you who feel that you are pregnant you probally are and then it is gotten rid of by the iud so then you are not after that, but sometimes in a lot of cases the baby survives the iud and then you are pregnant know there is a lot complication that can arise if you go ahead with the pregnancy or you will be perfectly fine like one of the girls above she went thruogh the pregancy like a normal one and had a great baby. so iam just imforming yuou of how the iud works. now doctors won't tell you that because ehrn they invinted the iud they changed the meaning of pregnancy from you conceve when the sperm implants the egg to you are pregnant when the fertilaized egg attaches to the uterus. so depending on when you belive you are pregnant is how you determine things. doctors changes that meaning to protect themselfs from having to explain the real defintion. iam not saying my beliefs but i will tell you that i have had the iud in now for about ten months and iam never late. well three months ago i was 10days late i called the doctor and he quiclky said i was fine but wouldn't explain anything. then on the 11th day i started bledding really heavy on and off and doctor said give it a couple of hours and you will be ok. i was in pain so i wated it out and then the bleeding stopped but right befor it did i had a big blob of blood and what looked like a baby type come out and the doctor said i was fine and pushed me out as fast as he could. then i found a brochure about hoew the iud really works and then i was upset becuase i experinced a pushed miscarriage by the iud. and since then i have not had any problems i want to take it out but i have had really bad periods and now they are very easy and lite. i also will not let my husband come inside of me due to my experinces. so you take what you want but i do have articles about how it really works and for those of you who really like iam gald for you all. iam just telling my side you can take out of it what you want to if you have any questions you can eamil me at tweetlucatyahoocom if not good luck to all lucy

Honor - April 17

Just wanted to ask if anyone knew how long it takes for periods to return to normal post mirena? My Mirena fell out with minor discomfort a coupleof weeks after xmas .I had period 10 days later then another 26 days after. But then none and am now 36 days since my last period.Home test says neg. Any ideas?

Honor - April 17

Meant to say that I have had 3 periods since mirena fell out ...... Jan 22nd ,Feb 16th and March 13th all being 26 days apart. That seemed quite regular to me (all be it a little to frequent!) so I was surprised not to get my period this month! showing signs of being pregnant though (-ve) test at home. A bit confused, and don,t know if I should see Dr.?

Hi everyone, I saw this topic and had to share my story. I had the copper IUD put in place after having my second child 2yrs ago. In October my husband and I were surprized to be pregnant with the IUD in place- due in June. We were worried about complications with the baby with the IUD left in and thought it should be removed. My dr attempted and could not remove it, she sent me to the hospital to have an OB try. 8 hours and 2 OBs later we could still not get it out. We discussed options with the Drs and determined we should not attempt any further for risk of miscarriage. I was worried about the development of the baby with the IUD in place and had many ultrasounds to keep track of the IUDs position ect. After the first 13weeks of pregnancy things looked good and I began to feel more relieved, ultrasounds showed the baby developing just fine and no issues with the IUD. At my 20week ultrasound we found out I had placenta previa and my doctor had suggested bed rest from 28weeks to the end of the pregnancy. Well we didn't make it to 28weeks, my water broke at 22weeks and after just 2days in the hospital on drugs and bed rest I went into labour. I was bleeding heavily and had to have an emergency c-section. We were told the baby would prebably not survive. Our baby boy was born alive and kicking, perfect just too tiny at just over 1 pound. He lived for jsut 3hrs as we held him we said hello and good-bye. I am very sad and some what angry. I wasn't aware something like this could happen and would have chosen an alternative method of bc had I known. I THOUGHT YOU ALL SHOULD KNOW that this can happen. I have heard and read of mothers having healthy babies after getting pregnant with an IUD but there are those that do not survive. I'm not sure how much info is out there on this topic. I know I sure couldn't find very much but wanted to share this with all of you so you are informed. I hope none of you ever have to go through this and I pray for the mom's out there pregnant with an IUD. I hope I haven't scared you I just thought the information should be out there. Take care.

I think it is very kind of you to share your story. It is helping me. I am going in for hysteroscopic surgery tommorrow. I am scared and confused about whether I am making the right choice. I am in my 13th week of pregnancy. I have had one doctor and two gynecologists try to remove my copper IUD without success. Tommorrow I will get an anesthetic and then my cervix will be dialated. They will put some kind of fluid along with a camera in there with the baby and the IUD and remove the IUD. I will be on bed rest for the next 3 days and 2 weeks without too much activity (ya right - I have a 2 1/2 yr old and a 4 yr old to run after). This procedure has an 85% success rate and if I leave the IUD in place I have a 50% chance of having the baby too early just as what happened to you. I am sorry for your loss.

anwood - April 23

Carmel G I just wanted you to know that I was told I you have a 50% chance of having the baby too early. As far as I understand there are no risks of birth defects because of the IUD just premature labour. I opted for the hysteroscopic procedure purely based on stats and not because I really want to get it done. I just want to try and give this baby it's best chance. I will be sad if I lose the baby because of the procedure but I think the risk of it being born too early is too high for me to feel comfortable leaving it in. It would be difficult for your other kids too if you have the baby too early. I wish you the best of luck and may you choose wisely.
