IUD Pregnancy

WOW... I don't even know what to say... wow! I found this board because I had the copperT put in in Jan 06 a few months after delivering twin girls. Lately, I've been feeling fatigued with sore b___sts but I have yet to take a test... You may find this funny... I don't keep track of my periods. My husband does and he told me I'm late and should have started my period already this month. I figured he miscounted the days because I have this wonder-device called the IUD but I will get checked out. My twins are 9 months old now so I can't imagine having another one (or two) while having two toddlers but if I found out I were pregnant then I would want to keep it (and hopefully it would be a boy this time so I can call it quits) I checked for the strings and they have become so short that I can barely feel them... in fact I'm not sure what exactly I am feeling at all. I have to press the finger into the mouth of the cervix just to feel anything at all. But I'm not too alarmed about this because after getting it initially, it moved around for the first month, always feeling different. My Dr told me NOT to worry if I couldn't feel it... yikes... I think the best thing to do it go with my instinct. Apparently I should have started menstruating on or about the 18... which would make me 6 days late but I did lose 10 pounds this month which could be a reason to be late or miss. Anyway, I am 23 and the twins are my only children. Feel free to reply

HI, I'm a 21 year old mother of a 2 year old daughter. I have had Mirena for over 2 yrs. now with one previous miscarriage about 3 mos. ago. For about the past two weeks I have "felt" pregnant. I started to notice swollen tender b___sts, headaches/backaches, horrible heartburn, nausea but no actual vomiting, fatigue/sluggishness, frequent urination, appet_te changes, and awful insomnia. I didn't think that you could get pregnant on IUD because of all the ways that they said it works. Noticed symptoms 2 wks or so ago. Took a HPT 2 days ago (-), and another today, also (-). Made an appt with dr for friday. Why is it that all doctors think you are being ridiculous when you tell them that you think you are pregnant on Mirena? Anyone get a false negative while using Mirena only to turn out to be pregnant? If so, how long did it take to get a positive? I didn't think I would be experiencing symptoms this soon..any advice out there?

Hi, i found this board on the baby center website and although the post were really old, i see that this board is still going strong. Anyways, i got the Mirena IUD in Oct 06 and about every month i have very light periods that last 10-15 days long. I have not yet went to the Dr, but was wondering if this was normal? Also, i love the IUD just the long periods aren't great. I've had the other symptoms like back pain, acne and depression, but they only last for a short time and my boyfriend is very supportive and understanding about it all. Anways, any insight would be great. Thank you so much for the help.

Yesterday I called the OB/GYN's office and the idiot I spoke to told me that being able to feel the base of the IUD coming out is "normal" What should I do? go to the ER? Because now it's been hurting me... it's the base for sure. I can tell now because it came out further than before. They of course won't make an immediate appt for me and insist I wait 2 weeks until the doc who put it in is available again. I also told them I was late... seemed to breeze over because no one cared. I bought 2 HPTs first was neg (took it right away) Second w/ morning urine... can't tell. There appears to be a line at the top and bottom & clear in the middle... but it's so light that maybe I'm imagining it... When I took the test when I was preg w/ twins, it was around the same amount late and that line was light pink but you could see it was there for sure. I think I will try calling them back tomorrow and speak to someone with a brain... Maybe I can get around all this "Referral Red Tape BS"

hi girls.... i dont have a personal experience with pregnancy and IUD, but I was just talking to my aunt who is an OB/GYN nurse who works in labor and delivery. she had a funny story about a woman who got pregnant with an IUD in and ended up having to keep it in. when the baby was delivered he was holding the IUD in his hand and "handed" it to the doctor when he came out. kind of like he was saying "here you go... this wasn't working for you so i took it out!". haha. i thought that was pretty funny!

hmmm... after a night of serious cramping, my IUD came out.... all by itself so I guess I no longer need to worry about it anymore. I wonder how common this is? Anyone else have the IUD "naturally expelled"?

In response to the many women who are concerned that their periods or late - with the Mirena IUD your periods are likely to get shorter and may disappear altogether. Having a late or missed period may not mean you are pregnant. If you are concerned, take a pregnancy test to ease your mind, of course. No method of birth control is 100% - statistically, 1 in 1000 women with a Mirena are likely to get pregnant. With the copper IUD, the number is 8. This makes IUDs one of the more reliable forms of birth control.

HI everyone, I too have Mirena. I had it put in around april 2006 after having my daughter who is now 15 months old. I had my yearly fisical last week and asked my Docor The Following: Q: why can't I feel the strings? A: The strings flattend out and have hidden in the side. They are there and fine. Q: Why am I on day 12 of my period when i went 3 to 6 months with no period and started menstration several months ago again?A: It is common and I am still adjusting to it. Q: Why the hell do i have cramps almost everyday A: I am not suppose to have cramps everyday and need to keep an eye on it and a fever. She checked for infection and it was negati\ve. Q: (I do not mean to affend anyone with this one) Why do I have a thick stringy mucous that it ejects every month for 1 to 3 days? You will love this answer: A: When that happens for me that means my body is ovulating. She advised me to track when I get it (both the nasty thing and period) and when my last day of period is. She thinks that will show I am ovulating when it happens because mirena thickens the fluid so sperm have no chancce of fertalizing the egg. Does anyone else have these symptoms? I have had in the past the same symptoms as everyone else. Here is a real kicker. Since my appt for my yearly fisical 5 days ago my back hurts and i have cramping. It does not hurt when I have s_x but hurts a couple hours after. anyone have this too?

I just found out I am 6 weeks pregnant with a cooper iud. This will be my 5th child and I had it placed 10/2005 about 8 weeks after my 4th daughter. I didn't even get 2 years out of it though. My husband and I are still taking it all in. My doctor who actually specializes in fertility says that she will not remove the iud it will just stay for the duration of my pregnancy. Many of my friends have the iud(6, 8, and 9 years), but I am the only one who got pregnant with it in. I just hope this pregnancy goes well with no complications and after this I will be getting my tubes tied.

Has anyone heard if loosing weight can cause the iud to slip and or cause pregnancy. I am over weight with the mirena and don't want to get pregnant for a while. If it is true then I will probably have more checkups if and when i do loose weight..

Wow! I had alot of faith in my IUD Mirena, now I am not so sure about it. I had my IUD placed in April, and now I feel pregnant. I had a light period from the time I had it placed untill July 28 when it suddely stoped after having s_x the night before. Every once in a while I have a little spot of blood in my increased mucous, remids me of a bloody show. My b___sts are looking more full and I am having so many headaches. I dont know what to do, I have taken one test(-) and still feel like am Pregnant. I already have two children 2.5 & baby just turned 1.

Hi everyone, my name is Christine. I happened upon this thread while researching my situation on the internet. I was b__wn away by all the postings. I'm 30 with two kids and we planned on no more. I had my Mirena put in April 06 after the birth of my last child. I had reagular periods for about 6 months then they became sketchy. It's now been four months since my last period and to be honest I was celebrating. That was until I started notcing some symptoms in the past few weeks. I'm exhausted, my b___sts are larger, nipples look a bit darker, I'm nauseous at times for no reason and I'm eating breakfat when I forst get up(I never do this). My husband has commented that I seem moody to him as well. I took a HPT this morning but it was negative. But then I started reading about ALL the negative HPT results on here and I was shocked. I have two more I can take and I plan to use them soon. I should call my doc but I have no insurance and two kids and the expense is a bit more than I can do right now. This thread is great because I don't feel crazy about feeling pregnant. I wish everyone the best of luck on here. I'll post any further news about my situation. I did just find out that my HPT is not very sensitive from peeonastick dot com. Go there to see how sensitive your test is. Ack! What am I gonna do if ii'm pregnant! sorry...i'm a little worried right now. If anybody has any advice please answer this post. Thank you all and good luck!!!!

Hey I just have a quick question I have had my IUD since March of 06 and I haven't had any problems but lately I have felt pregnant but I had a period does any one know if bleeding while pregnant might be because of the IUD?

Teri - August 26

missreardon I had all the symptoms you do and I had an infection in my uterus we treated it with antibiotics and it went away.

MJ27 - August 29

i have a question. i had my mirean put in february 2007, so i've had it for over 6 months. i haven't had children and my periods stopped after 2 months or so becuase of my size i guess. I'm 5'2" and 105lbs. but i've been feeling really sick lately. I have cramps lasting weeks, feeling sick to my stomach and sometimes getting dizzy. I dont know what it feels like to be pregnant and have taken pregnancy tests about 3 months ago but i'm still not feeling much better? i'm also a little anemic. maybe its just my anemia acting up because of the iud? if i'm pregnant i want to know so i dont' harm the baby but it's so hard to tell with pregnancy tests because i dont' know when my last period was, etc. any suggestions?

TINA - September 1

SIX WEEKS AFTER HAVING MY FIRST CHILD IN 2003, MY OBGYN PLACED AN IUD IN MY UTERUS. THE THING WORKED GREAT UNTIL SEPTEMBER 3 2004. I HAD BEEN NAUSED FOR A WEEK AND WOMEN AT WORK SUGGESTED THAT I TAKE A PREGNANCY TEST. I THOUGHT THEY WERE CRAZY. I HAD NOT HAD MY PERIOD THE MONTH BEFORE, BUT I WAS NOT WORRIED. MY OBYGN SAID THIS WAS SOMETIMES NORMAL FOR THOSE WITH IUDS TO QUIT HAVING THEIR PERIODS. I WAS SIX WEEKS PREG. AT MY FIRST DR VISIT THEY THOUGHT THEY SAW MY IUD ON ULTRASOUND. SO I WENT FOR A LEVEL 2 ULTRASOUND WHEN I WAS 18 WKS. THE IUD WAS NOT FOUND. MY OB SAID THAT IT MOST LIKELY CAME OUT. AFTER GIVING BIRTH TO A FULL TERM BABY BOY WHO WAS COMPLETELY HEALTHY AND NO COMPLICATIONS, MY OB SAID THERE WAS NO SIGN OF THE IUD IN MY PLECENTA. REMEMBER MY IUD WAS PLACED IN MARCH 2003 AND MY SON WAS BORN IN APRIL 2005. LAST YEAR I WENT TO MY FAMILY PHYSICIAN WITH RIGHT SIDED PAIN, SHE ORDERD ME A CT SCAN TO LOOK FOR RENAL STONES. I WORK AT THE HOSPITAL IN RADIOLOGY WHERE I HAD THE SCAN. NO RIGHT SIDED STONE WAS FOUND, HAD A SMALL ONE IN THE LEFT. WHILE SCANNING DOWN THROUGH THE ABDOMEN, THE TECH ASK IF I WAS POSITIVE I HAD NEVER HAD SURGICAL CLIPS. OF COURSE, I HAD NEVER HAD SURGERY. THEN SHE SAYS- OH MY GOD, TINA I JUST FOUND YOUR IUD. TALK ABOUT SHOCKED! I WENT AND TALKED WITH OUR RADIOLOGIST WHO CALLED MY OBGYN. MY IUD WAS OUTSIDE OF THE UTERUS, BETWEEN BY ABDOMINAL MUSCLES AND INTESTINES. I ALWAYS SAID HE WAS MY MIRACLE BABY. THE RADIOLOGIST SAID -NO YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND. I CAN THINK OF A DOZEN THINGS THAT COULD HAVE AND SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED TO YOU-GOD WAS DEFFINETLY WATCHING OVER ME. HE, ASWELL, AS THE OTHER DOCTORS WERE SHOCKED. MY BODY HAD NOT TRIED TO REJECT THE IUD AND THERE WAS NO SIGNS OF INFECTION. ON JAN. 3, 2007, MY IUD WAS FINALLY REMOVED THROUGH MY BELLY BUTTON, 4 YRS AFTER IT WAS PUT IN AND ALMOST 2 YRS AFTER MY SON WAS BORN. LATER I FOUND OUT FROM THE OBGYN THAT IT WAS NOT WHERE THE CT SAID IT WAS-HE FOUND IT UNDER MY LEFT RIBCAGE. APPARENTLY IT HAD BEEN FLOATING AROUND THE WHOLE TIME. MY BODY ACCEPTED IT. OF COURSE WE DON'T KNOW AT WHAT POINT IT CAME THROUGH THE UTERUS, BUT IT IS BELIEVED THAT MY SON PUSHED IT THROUGH AS HE CONTINUED TO GROW IN MY UTERUS. WE BOTH ARE TRUELY BLESSED AND THIS IS TESTIMONY THAT GOD WAS WATCHING OVER THE BOTH OF US.
