I just went in for an ultrasound at approx. 5 1/2 weeks. I'm not sure when I concieved because I have extremely irregular periods. Anyways, we saw a yolk sac but no fetus inside. I'm just wondering if this was too early to see anything or has anyone seen thier baby this early. Please tell me, I go back in a week to check again, but this is absolutely killing me. How early did you first see your little one and it's heartbearting?

We saw a heartbeat at 6 weeks, which is on the early side for when they can see it, so we were pretty fortunate. I wouldn't worry at all at 5.5 weeks, I'm sure it'll be a different story in another week. Try and take it easy, best of luck!

I think 5.5 weeks is early too, just think, you baby is probably smaller than a grain of rice. Also, if you are unsure of when you conceived, maybe you are earlier that 5.5 weeks. I would not stress about it. Im in Canada, and they do the first ultrasound at 12 weeks, that way they are sure that there is something there to see.

Maria, I had an ultrasound done at 5w5d, and there was just a sac, and it was kind of odd shaped. I was told I might miscarry, but they weren't sure. I went in at 7w for a followup ultrasound, and there was the heartbeat and everything. It was a week of hell in between though, so I understand what you are going through. Keep us posted!

Had my first u/s at 18 weeks. Best time to have it .... baby actually looks like a baby, well except for the alien looking face! I think that having an u/s before that unless there are complications, is a waist of time....

Q- you're absolutely right, this has been the longest week of my entire life. And I've still got 3 days to go. I'll still only be 6 - 6.5 weeks when I go for another one. I'm scared to death that we won't see anything else again and I'll have to go through another week of hell. I wish they would have just waited to begin with, then I could have gone on thinking everything was fine, like I did before last week's ultrasound. Thanks for your comments, and yes I'll defintely keep you posted and if anyone else has any other comments, I'm open for them. Thanks!!

Maria, I was in the exact same situation as you, i went for an ultrasound at 51/2 and there was only the sac but no baby. The technician told me that it was too early to see anything and that my doctor would want to schedule another ultrasound to follow up and she was very nice and told me not to worry about anything.
I was exactly the same i was not sure when i conceived and also my periods have always been irregular. So my doctor tells me that he wanted me to go back in another 4 week to see if the baby was there.. well i went back but that time i was already about 9 1/2 and there it was.. the baby was there tiny of course and with a hearbeat of 167.
Since my doctor scared the c___p out of me and basically told me that the pregnancy was not viable, i was so sad, but you can only imagine my surprise when i saw the baby, that was the best feeling in the world.
My dates were wrong and i am thinking that by the time i went the first time i was probably less than 51/2 weeks pregnant so don't worry....

I saw my daughter at I think it was 8 weeks, but it wasn't a normal ultrasound this doctor did it through my uterous, I had never had it done that way before, but we saw our small baby. You ususally don't see the baby by regular ultrasound until 20 weeks or so. That's when they can tell what it is if you want to know. I will be having a ultrasound tomorrow at 12 weeks, because of unexplained spotting. I should be able to hear the heartbeat tomorrow also. 12 weeks is usually the normal time when you can hear the heartbeat.

Hi everyone. Well, I went back for my follow up ultra sound yesterday and there it was, this very very tiny little fetus with a heart beat. It was the most wonderful feeling, I didn't want the ultrasound to end, I could have just stared at it forever. My baby measured at 6 wks 3 days, so that means that last week I was only 5 wks 2 days. That's why we didn't see it then, it was just too early. I am so relieved, I know I'm not totally out of the woods yet, but I feel much more relaxed and am ready to now enjoy being pregnant. Thank you all so very much for your support in my time of need, your responses kept me positive and sain this week. They gave me so much hope and comfort to know there were others out there who had been in the same situation with positive outcomes. I hope that everyone has healthy, happy pregnancies and again thank you for you kindness.

Maria, Yay! I am so happy to hear that your ultrasound went well. Now you have to WAIT until 18 weeks for the next one :) I'm 9w2d, and I can't wait to go back. It was so great just seeing a heartbeat and I know I'll never forget it. PLUS I read that after you see the heartbeat, your chance of m.c goes way down under 5%!!!
